Description The first piece in my concentration for AP art. It's a castle carved into a book which is what I decided my 'theme' to be. I thought it was a neat idea to take books that would otherwise have been thrown away or never read be turned into cool looking art pieces. It was also a solution for my 3D predicament since I did not want to do clay pots and vessels since many people do.

I began working on it while we were still setting up for our play, so uh, that was kinda cool? This particular one took me about two and a half days of "constant yet on and off work." My favorite thing about it is the gold filigree around the border, I think it's very pretty and fitting with the fantasy type setting.

Well I got a good grade but my overall portfolio that I supported got a 3 (out of five) which is honestly pretty good for being a sophomore. And thank you very much~

That's just about the coolest thing ever- I love how the book tells the story and IS the story- remarkable! Even the number of pages adds to the dimension, I just love looking at this!

That's what I was going for, glad it shows. I was surprised how deep it looks when in reality I didn't go that far back into the book. Thank you for the lovely comment also~

Wow! Haven't seen any of these in a while. Reminds me of Brian Dettmer's book autopsies.

Yours gives a more literal meaning the 'storybook castle' theme, especially with the border. It might make a good literature piece too after picking out some of the words. Feels like there's a real story going on in there somewhere. Good job on this!

Thank you very much for the kind words.
I'm sure there was a story in there somewhere. I think it was a commentary on an author. One chapter there was something about the economy and the next page he was talking about beavers and dams. It was really strange.

I was think along the lines of making up your own story; picking out random words and seeing what formulates. It's interesting to see a fairy tale castle and the word's "Who does not remember" and "It's a fool's life" all together. It kinda reminds the viewer that fairy tales aren't real. You could isolate specific words and cover the rest with color. That'd be so awesome!

WHATWHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU.

Why are you so amazing, huh? This is awesome, all of your books actually.
I'm planning on making an altered book sometime soon as well. I've been really wanting to make one for a long time now! Yours are fantasical, if I need some help I'm asking you all the questions, kay?

Hehe well I try? They're actually not as frustrating as I though they'd be you just need to be careful you don't stab yourself. Plus they're pretty portable when they're like this first one that doesn't have random stuff poking out. Ask away~

Well they're really great, and you've really found your niche with these crafty pieces. It's a type of art I'm not very familiar with so it's really refreshing to see yours.

Everyone usually does vessels and vases for their 3D concentration. I rolled around in this stressful rut before coming up with this.

Good of you to think outside the box. I think this sort of projects suits your style, and your amazing skill with an exacto-knife.

wow, it's gorgeous. What did you use to cut everything? just scissors? did you trace it out then start cutting?

I cut with an exacto blade very very carefully. I haven't impaled myself yet . Because of the way it was layered I began with the front and just sort of added on towers when I wanted them.
