   Personality:

Kanani is an over-all boy next door type of person, and never really turns down a person in need unless completely necessary. Despite his newfound ability he still manages to keep a moderately calm and rational mind when the aftershock was over. He knows what he has isn’t normal but tries to keep himself under control and not ‘freak out’ too much, especially when saying all this to his poor mother. Work-wise, he is more of a follower but is willing to take the lead in dire situations. Despite his willingness to follow, he doesn’t do it blindly and may speak up if he does not see eye-to-eye with a certain order or decision.

He’s a friendly and approachable lad altogether but take it for granted one too many times, even with his constant forgiveness, and he will never forget your wronging towards him. He doesn’t like holding grudges, but insult him for the last time and you will never gain his trust ever again.

Born and raised in Hilo, Hawaii Kanani had a pretty ordinary life. He lived with his loving mother who worked her way up from a simple waitress to owning her own little restaurant which provides a large portion of their family income. The boy never knew his father nor really planned to. Kanani was the result of a ‘fling’ between his mother and an Spanish tourist and as soon as he found out she was pregnant that was the end of it. Still, his mother was a strong woman and jumped back fast, deciding to keep him and raise Kanani on her own. The only thing Kanani knew about his ‘father’ besides being Spanish was that he also had green eyes. He secretly hates his eyes but also refuses to wear contacts unless needed because they feel uncomfortable to him.

One night in their modest household, Kanani woke up to a commotion downstairs from his bedroom. He cautiously sneaked down and could hear his cats hissing aggressively but the poor things ran away when two men kicked them out of their way. Enraged for trespassing and harming his ‘babies’ but not reckless enough to confront them, he tried to sneak past them and to the phone to report to the police. However, he accidentally stepped on a loose floorboard and it creaked, making his presence known to the intruders. A confrontation commenced which Kanani, despite his good build, knew he would lose because he was up against two large men. His mother instantly crossed his mind and, not wanting her to be involved, decided to lure the assailants out of the house through insults and got chased out of the house.

After that however he didn’t know what to do but keep running. As he did, he kept twisting and turning around alleyways to lose them but they knew the area just as well as he did. His mind was racing and his rational mind, unused to this kind of pressure, was giving in to panic. The world seemed so chaotic that he wished he could hide from it all…but where? His body began feeling strange, almost hot and he assumed it was from the panic but that was a minor thought as he was focusing on not getting caught. He wished he could blend in with the surroundings, find a secret place to hide, anything! He was getting tired, the men were catching up and they didn’t look too happy. For some strange reason he remembered his cats, and how faster he could be if he were like them and can even fit into some of these open holes in the old buildings so he can escape. He didn’t want to die, he had his mother to take care of! And his future! He didn’t want to leave all that yet!

He almost felt the tears running down his face as he took another turn, a big burst of energy out of the need to survive and suddenly it felt like the ground gave in despite it being solid concrete and he tumbled into a corner. He felt dizzy, near passing-out even, but as he heard his chasers’ voices he froze and kept quiet.

They were searching for him, they were really close as if they were just a few feet away but…they seemed confused, and suddenly really tall. They asked each other if they saw where he went but neither knew. Finding the chase fruitless and frustrating, they decided to give up on the heist for the night and try again tomorrow.

Kanani stood up, but felt himself fall back as his legs immediately gave in. The world seemed so much bigger after that big tumble of his. Is he still dizzy? He rubs his eye, but immediately flinches when something pokes it. He looks down and screams, but it came out as a screechy meow. He had paws?! A tail?! Furry ears?! He ran on his hind legs, despite constantly falling until he saw a puddle and looked down. At first he thought he saw Kayla, one of his cats but the shocked expression that weirdly copied his own confirmed that he definitely was the cat.

He managed to turn back human not through his own will but by being scared shitless by a stray dog that appeared out of nowhere. He told his mother who of course at first didn’t believe him but after he managed to transform again it took him a while to get her to calm down. After they reported a break-in (minus the whole cat thing), they didn’t know what else to do about Kanani’s…ability. What would a weirded out boy in his late teens do? Post about it online of course, on some kind of weird forum the boy found on the site regarding strange occurrences.

Thinking people would take it as a joke, he talked about how weird would it be if people actually had ‘superpowers’ and if they even existed. And he even gambled on it and inserted his experience on being able to transform. Of course, most of the replies he got were sarcastic and he almost laughed since he expected as much. But one comment stuck out, asking him with surprising seriousness if it was all true. Kanani replied that he’d even ‘eat some catshit’ to let people know how serious he was.

A call to his house came a few days later, an invitation to some agency Kanani nor did his mother ever hear of. The boy even laughed on the phone and asked if this was a hoax. With the same serious aura as the comment he got on that forum, which had been mysteriously deleted the next day, told him just how serious of a matter this actually was.

    Ambition: He hopes to become an expert in his ability and at the same time keep his mother safe by being away and keeping his ability secret from the public.
