Description Here's another piece from my art book The Protectorate Wars.

This time we have a pirate space fighter pilot. He wears a g-suit much like modern fighter pilots, but also wears a fully enclosed helmet with an oxygen supply system. Should his cockpit lose air pressure, the suit will keep him safe.
Space fighter combat isn't common in fleet battles in my setting, as ciws and point defense arrays between ships are extremely effective, but they do find use in raiding and piracy against lone ships or lightly defended convoys.

Really awesome design. The skull painted on the helmet helps make it look extra badass.

How do you draw so much? I can draw maximum 1 nearly that good picture in monthΒ

I don't draw as much as it appears, I'm just dumping artwork that has built up over the last few years. I can paint something like this in 2-3 days, but I rarely keep that pace.

The best niche for strikecraft would be where material cost is at a premium and lives are cheap, I feel. Raiding and skirmishing, yeah, in a sort of corporate warfare where it's the money and resources that are the ultimate goal. And a fighter is easier to scrub of incriminating data/scuttle than a proper warship.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to DaLintyMan [2017-12-20 16:54:56 +0000 UTC]

In my setting it's often more the opposite, people aren't a fan of dying so much, and resources are very abundant considering the number of planets each faction holds. So throwing swarms of expendable fighters at a problem isn't easy.

Resources are abundant. Extracting, refining, and manufacturing though? Usually less so, most often the last of those most of all. Especially for 'proper' warship hulls and weapons that are competitive with larger nations.

Almost looks like Spartan III Emile-A239 if he were less concerned for close-quarters combat, and much better-suited as a pilot...an ace pilot.

I've always enjoyed your "soft armor" or utilitarian like pieces like this. something about that sense of vulnerability of rugged "make do" units serving in the sidelines. its been a real treat seeing you expand and give some meat to some other aspects of the Protectorate wars lore.
