Description I AM IIIIIRRRRON SHAAAM! XD

Sorry, couldn't resist it!

This piece is two things: The first one a piece of fan art to Marvels Iron Man both comics and feature films and the second being a design that was my first approach of designing it entirely in Photoshop from the ground up. After some thought, I felt it was about time to try something new and begin working with projects solely in Photoshop. It's certainly proved to be a challenge and while I will honestly admit a photo reference was used to kick start this one I plan to move away from it once I've mastered this new approach. So really this is a sketch/practice piece since I was playing around with approaches whilst treating much like a speed painting than anything else.

I feel content with this one and while maybe some areas could be worked on etc etc for a starting block it's not bad (but could always be better lol).

Please let me know of any crits your personal opinions you may have about this piece.

I am in awe of your colouring skills. You always make your work look so shiny and realistic. This is a fantastic portrait, you should try other MARVEL characters. I would love to see either Thor or Loki in your style. ^^

Amazing color tones here. You've got the new style of IronMan down pat, I would work on the helmet, where his mouth piece is placed sort of low. Other then that I see no other flaws.
From a far distance the metal looks real, also the lighting is in perfect places.
He looks very strong here and ready for battle, which he should be.
Excellent work painting him

I love love love the colours. Photo ref or not, it's still really impressive. It's just another way to learn as well, so it's all good.

Ah, haha! You've finally taken a big jump into starting in Photoshop, and finishing in Photoshop

I will say, a LOVELY piece, and I'm very impressed by the fact that it turned out as if it was painted (the background definately giving the feeling, seeing how as ou seemed to "brush" around the character. The lighting is done brilliantly, one one small note however, there is a highlight that should be darker (looking straight at the pic, the highlighted cheek on the left should be darker)

Otherwise, an amazing job well done. Yes yes, you had to use a ref, but it is not bad at all being completely done in Photoshop, now you know how I do some of my works xD

very nice job indeed... would love to know more about your process as I'm about to throw myself into something similar.. just bought me a wacom bamboo fun and have never drawn anything directly from scratch on the puter..

Just have fun really, don't think too heavily of the outcome of the work and simply roll with it as you work on it each time or hour. Don't be critical of what happens when working on something since you can always change things as you go, the important thing is to have fun even if it doesn't work out.

i love this,
what i particularly like is the highllights on the matel armour,
it really stands out.
Although the paint strokes are loose, it is very high quality, and it holds life to the picture itself

Wonderful wonderful digital painting Simply awesome blends of colors. Not just a flat, a light, and a dark of each one, but a true painted spectrum of all the shades as it goes from shadow to shine on the metal surfaces. And great usage of brushes for the background, very classy.
