And when the sun dies, it will explode and literally kill anything near it. RIP anything near the sun's super nova XD

The sun won't go supernova. Instead it will bloat to a red giant, its photosphere reaching the orbit of Earth. Whether the Earth is then absorbed or just charred to a cinder remains to be seen. Hardly more cheery, I agree.

I'm adding this:
Her dying Sun, in the last gasp of life, swelled into a red giant that will consume her world & her along with it. Is she looking at her Sun in anger, does she feels her Sun betrayed her & her little ponies? After all her Sun is the reason her world is now dead when it began to swell into a giant giant. Once a source of life for a planet, now the cause for the death of a planet.
As an immortal being, she was forced to witness the slow death of her civilization she founded, & the slow death of her people & despite all her powers. She could do nothing about it. Maybe those are all the reason her mind is now shattered. Did she ever thought this is how it was all going to end? Did she really thought her happy life will go on forever?
Kinda sad & depressing... By the way, what happened to Luna?

I've been looking for a piece of art like this for a very long time. I absolutely love it. what it represents, and the unlimited number of untold stories behind it. I was wondering if I could use this piece as cover art for a fanfiction I am currently writing, entitled "The Dying Star". of course, I would give credit where it's due. what do you say?

Gabrial-Dragon45 In reply to BaleFireBomb [2013-12-20 12:07:31 +0000 UTC]
at first glimpse a dying sun is a star that has exhausted its supply of hydrogen fuel. With a hydrogen deprived core all that would be left of it is a huge sphere with an inner shell of hydrogen around a helium burning core. Before it eventualy turns into a Red Giant.

When it is a Red Giant, it will after a while (not sure how long, a Day? an hour?) explode into a "supernova", and destroy the solar system, and another one or two if they're close by. The formerly Red Giant is now a White Dwarf, looking more like a white glowing planet. (It's almost made completely out of iron, and would go straight through the Earth to the centre it's so heavy. That is, if you even manage to take a piece off of it and manage to lift it up without it making a hole through your hand. Yes, I study a lot of space through the TV)

Clearly our suns fate is sealed.
And due to a lack of mass our sun is not large enough to explode on its own as a supernova.

^^ Anytime buddy .
Though out in todays universe there are many stars of various sizes and types out there that represent each stage of life that our sun will eventualy go thru.
From the Beetlegeuse to VY Canis Majoris.
And our sun will not be in death alone.
Speculation states that even the suns nearby neighbours alpha and proxima centuri will also turn into red giants aswell as our sun too so our sun or whoever is in controll of alpha and proxima centuri will also be giving our lonely dying sun some company. So bottom line Celestia Does possibly have power over Alpha and Proxima Centuri aswell as our Sun.

If Humanity fails to leave this planet Earth, we also will share this fate. But then again My Little Pony Freindship Is Magic universe might have a star that never dies.

If the sun in My Little Pony is the same age and type as ours, this will happen in around five billion years. So Celestia has a long time to prepare for this day.
By the way, where is Luna?

Many say that the moon will crumble before the sun dies out, so perhaps she has already passed.

Abramus5250 In reply to Starceptor [2012-04-24 02:27:12 +0000 UTC]
Good theory, though I heard the moon will fly out of our orbit in around 50 billion years, so maybe the expanding sun's gravity has already sped up the process and Luna went sailing away with the moon. It is likely she would be buried there, so if it goes, she goes with it.

Zenrix In reply to Starceptor [2012-05-17 08:54:06 +0000 UTC]
There is also the line of thought of the 'big one' astroid coming to destroy the Earth, but in the case of Equestria, Luna could move the moon in the way, destroying it (and herself) as the cost for saving Equestria from the imminent destruction. That could also have an effect on Celestia, bring about this scene in her depression over the loneliness having finally sunk in, especially after having already seen Twilight's death (be it old age or otherwise).
