Here’s another one I noticed is also not in my Deviant galleries. Another from Seibertron.com, this is from a brief scene in the TF G1 ‘Metatisic’ story where Shockwave is standing beside Megatron in one of the several great halls in the Iysurus Temple complex.I did many illustrations for and/or related to the feature, but since I’ve begun to offer the saga here at DeviantART last week, the more I’ve noticed that several of these pieces are not in my galleries here at all and I’m not sure exactly why. Either I thought I had them up already, or I did at one time but retired them in order to clean up my deviations for new art.

hmm, i'd like to add something to the discussion: There are various different forms of TF-'children' and it's also different for most universes:
Sparkling -> A TF-child in fanon-terms. Practically a small Transformer, like a human child. There is NO canon-background.
Hatchling -> What comes before a completed protoform, maybe the closest thing to a 'sparkling'. It's a protoform hatched in a container. When they're born those hatchlings are indeed little Transformer-children. Only the bay-verse has them and there is no information about how they are created -> [link]
Protoform -> The standard cybertronian body. When a new TF is manufactured, they all look the same -> [link]
TFs in the bayverse will revert to their protoform-state when they travel through space. Protoforms are canon in most universes.

As for mech children... Now ‘protoforms’ I certainly have heard of. In fact I use that term in the Metatisic story. There is a ‘annex’ that I did in the saga that lights on Megatron’s creation and in that ‘newborn’ stage he had no distinctive haul or armor design. Just a basic, almost andriodic type body; a ‘substructure’. I use this idea frequently when ever ‘newborns’ are mentioned or discussed. Once they are old enough to sustain their first armor process, the ‘protoform’ becomes a ‘vornling’, or --as you mentioned some fans dub-- ‘a sparkling’.

Megatron looks like an adorable sparkling, and he certainly looks like he looks up to Shockwave a lot--to which I know from the fic.

Oh, it's just a word for child/baby in Cybertronian terms. It's the most popular term you would here for them around here, anyway.

I think it was originally fan-made. TFA and Bayfilms use protoforms I believe, for children/their form underneath the armour]. I like vornling. It sounds better than sparkling. XD But it's pretty much what everyone in the TF fandom [here] knows them as [or at least the ones who write/draw sparklings].

Really? o_0! I didn't know there were mech children in TFA at all. And they call them sparklings? Or do you mean fans who draw TFA or Bay call them sparklings? Either way I'll just stick to the 'vornling' if its all the same with you. I dunno, sparkling sounds too much like glitter. *lol*

Oh, I get it. Sadly, I've never been interested much in watching TFA so I wouldn't know the other part. I dunno, I don't care for the art style they chose to use.
Anyways, I'll stick with vornling. I've been using it for uses so why change it now, right?

TFA is surprisingly written quite well. I'm a massive fan of how Megatron and Shockwave were written, plus, Cory does Shocky's voice, AND Megatron's [which sounds VERY seductive]. Every scene they share is just spewing innuendo, it's great!

I've seen it in fanfic, mostly by the younger kids. I think it's sort of like the Jedi term "Youngling" but instead of "young" they substitute "spark". Thus, Sparkling. It is most certainly not an official term, but it is fairly common in fanon in recent years.
Vornling makes more sense IMO, though personally I like to go with "cub", cuz that's how I roll. Seeker cub, Sweep cub, Autobot cub. And I did that long before Beast Wars came on the scene.

both the terms "youngling" and "sparkling" annoy me because yeah, glitter. (And also youngling sounds like an inherent redundancy).

Youngling sounds way to cliché for my taste. Sounds like someone had no imagination and just grabbed whatever. Apparently, the more descriptions I am receiving since I asked, sparkling is also overused.

waaaaaaaaay overused, IMO. Yeah youngling is so cliche. "Vornling" sounds more practical. Because it's based on "Yearling" which is a real term that incorporates a period of time into it and doesn't sound awkward like Youngling does.
