For 's November Contest, "In the Style." I chose to base my art off of Gustav Klimt's "The Kiss" , which he did in 1908 in the Post-Impressionist style...

But enough about my art history class...

I just love this painting. the tenderness and precarious relationship between the two people in the work has always spoken to me, since I saw the painting for the first time. My art history teacher was determined to tell me that it was a representation of misogyny, but I still don't believe her. That woman is enjoying that kiss, dammit.

So I imagine this scene for Fakiru takes place just after he turns her back into a human, which is why she's naked. Yes, that's right, she's not wearing any clothes. (I don't think this needs a warning, though...) The red halo around her body is the magic leftovers from the transformation, as is the background, to a certain extent. On the other hand you could call it, accurately, my attempt to copy the genius of Klimt's sparkly background. The flowers, grass, and reeds are not mine, but Adobe Photoshop's.

In still other news.... I ACTUALLY DREW SOMETHING FREEHAND!!!!!!!! With heavy referencing and all that jazz, but still. This was done on printer paper with my own two hands, no tracing or anything (and THEN it was scanned and photoshopped)!!! And it actually makes me pretty happy! Their hands are wonky, but I put that down to the original posing, because those hands were a bit wonky too.

So, yeah. I do like it, and whew was that a lot of work. Soooo glad it turned out even with an inkling of what I had hoped...

I could tell the moment I saw yours what the inspiration was, I just couldn't remember the name or the artist. >.> So good job on that front, you paid a very good homage to Klimt. Also, how can your art teacher say that painting is misogynistic? That's so obviously not what's going on.

I love how happy they look here, how sparkly everything is. You really conveyed a lot of emotion in this piece. <3
