Yeah, that was always the issue of the contacts they were using for the movie. Β To get them to glow their teal blue color, they had to use black lights, or UV lights. Β And in some lighting situations in the scenes, the UV light wasn't powerful enough to make the eyes glow and you would be able to see the natural color of the eyes of the actor using the contacts. Β And if they angled the lights in certain ways, the holes in the contacts would become visible and create a double pupil look. Β Big time FX fail.
The Lynch movie was better at making the eyes look blue within blue, even if the iris and pupils looked dark blue and the sclera light blue. Β When in the books it was just all dark blue, no pupils, no iris, no sclera...just all dark blue.
But I kinda liked the glowing eyes in the SyFy movie. Β It made the Fremen look very creepy.Β

Poking fun at the mini-series adaptation more than the books. Both were awesome, but yeah, the glow in the dark eyes would make coverts ops a little tricky. The eyes don't glow in the books though, they just turn blue.

That was funny, but the eyes of spice-addicts do not glow. They are merely blue-in-blue, no whites at all. In fact, the first book even says that they appear almost black in the light of a fire, or a dimmed glowglobe.

This was specifically a response to the Dune miniseries which is, well, charming but not quite accurate to the books.

Dune's one of the coolest books out there, definitely one of my favs! Love this, it's both artistic and hilarious The eyes are really expressive, and the glowiness is cool too, lol^^ Wonderful
