Description Another of my attempts to recreate a character from 'My little Pony: Friendship is Magic' in the superhero online game called 'DC Universe Online'.

I am Brainiac. I am all that must be. My supreme intellect makes me superior to any biological lifeform. So logically, all of existance must be shaped into Brainiac's image. What would they know about how things must be? They don't share my thought circuits. So, one after another, every world will be assimilated into my influence.

The so-called humans of Earth seek to resist. They put up resistance against all of my attempts to conquer their planet. Their 'heroes' as well as their 'villains' have powers that give them the ability to withstand my most powerful weapons. Plans must be contrived and new weapons must be created. My harvester ships have already started their work, bottling points of importance within the two most prominent cities, which they call 'Metropolis' and 'Gotham'. Soon the rest of the cities will follow.

But a new disruptive factor has arisen. New, unfamiliar creatures from another world, a species not native to Earth. They take the guise of regular humans, even though many of them can be recognized by certain features such as their powers or wings. They seek to offer their assistance to the natives of Earth. I must find out where they are from so that their homeworld, too, will fall to Brainiac. But first, their influence on this world must be removed. The combined efforts of these creatures and the humans might be enough to withstand the assault of my armies.

One of my spy drones has brought something that caught my interest. A small object that radiates an aura of power, an energy I am not familiar with. I will begin to study this energy. Anything that can be used to assist me is of importance.

Most interesting. The dark energy this object is emitting is capable of creating solid matter out of nowhere in the form of black crystals. The inner wall of the containment capsule is covered in them. I will remove them one by one by using high energy particle beams. A containment field will be erected to stop the powers from spreading. I must research how this can be used to my advantage.

An even more fascinating discovery: The object is growing, changing into something else. This suggests that this object is not inanimate, as I previously thought, but a living creature. Like the other newcomers, this being must be native to another world. I will allow its growth. The containment field is stable enough to keep it imprisoned. When it is finished growing, I will find out if it is intelligent. In case it is, I will speak to it.

The creature has stopped growing. Its shape is that of a humanoid, similar to a human, but with black skin. For some reason, it is wearing a metallic body armor and a cloak. I never saw a material of this kind in any of my travels. It must have created these armaments out of its own body mass. A very useful ability, which shall be soon in Brainiac's service.

The creature is beginning to stir, opening its eyes. They are glowing with a green light, as if they are made of Kryptonite. It seems confused, but cautious. Now what is it doing? It's walking up to the wall of its capsule, touching the containment field. It's reactions show me that it's highly intelligent. It is experimenting, trying to figure out how to breach its prison. There is no way outside.

"What is this place? Who dares imprison King Sombra inside this insultingly small cell? Show yourself, coward! Your magics won't hold me forever."

So I know the name of the creature. Sombra. He has a fairly outdated view of things, seeing himself as a king and considering my energy field as a form of magic. I will confront him. Maybe he can be controlled to serve in my master plan.

As I deactivate the containment field, I feel his powers expanding. With a loud roar, Sombra uses his powers to create more of the black crystals. They shatter the hull of the capsule, completely destroying it. No matter. It served its purpose. And I can form a new containment field around him any time. Now he focusses his gaze on me.

"What matter of creature are you? Why did you imprison me? I order you to tell me where I am."

"As you wish," I reply calmly. There is really no need not to follow his request. After all, he will be more useful the more he knows about his situation. "I am Brainiac. You are aboard my ship, which currently hovers over the planet, Earth. I found the small object you regenerated from on the planet's surface and brought it here to make you grow. Your powers are most unsual... and formidable."

That seems to flatter him. Biological creatures offen suffer from their own ego. With a big smile on his face, he calms down considerably. "I suppose I must thank you, Brainiac. But I have never heard from this 'Earth' before. Neither have I seen a creature such as you. I don't sense any sort of fear, no emotions, no pulse. Are you some sort of golem?"

Searching databanks... after finding out more about this word, I nod. "I suppose that comes somewhat close to what I am. I have questions as well. What kind of organism are you? From what world are you? And how did you end up as a small, immobile object."

"I am Sombra, the rightful king and ruler of the Crystal Empire!" he says with much grandeur. "My right to rule was challenged by... those infernal alicorns." He is growling. He must feel much resentment for these beings he is talking about. "Those princesses... after they dethroned me, much of my power was gone. I was nothing more than a shadow of my former self. It took me a long time to reform my former body. But when the time had come to reclaim my kingdom, I was defeated once more. By another princess, this one harnessing the power of... love." He makes a retching sound. I can sympathize. The humans of Earth also seem to have an unhealthy obsession with this unnessecary emotion. "My new-formed body was shattered, and only my horn remained. I was blind, mute and paralyzed. For a long time, there was nothing but darkness around me. Until the moment when I felt that something... was empowering me. An energy... that made me grow into... this." He glances down at his human-like figure. Gathering from his reaction, I assume this is not his original form. But it doesn't seem to bother him, either.

"It was I who supplied your inanimate form with energy," I reply. "The power your... horn was radiating is unlike anything I have encountered before. It might be useful in my agenda to put the inhabitants of this planet under my control."

"You seek to control the power of the king?" Sombra asks. I detect amusement in his voice, for some reason. "Well, let's see if you're worthy." He begins to wander the chamber, inspecting every piece of machinery in detail. Then he approaches the see-though energy field that shows the city of Metropolis underneath my ship. "And this is the world you try to conquer. Yes, I can see why. It is a fertile land, with many beings living there. Many suitable slaves. Reminds me of the day when I became king. The crystal ponies were unable to resist my spell. One after another, I brought them under my control."

"Will you be able to do the same with the humans of Earth?" I ask.

"Oh, most certainly," he nods while turning around to face me. "I will need some more of that energy to recharge, then my powers will affect all of this city. And from this place, I will rule when I expand my kingdom over this entire world."

I detect a false statement. "You are mistaken." I say. "I awoke you with the purpose of using your powers for myself. Everything must belong to Brainiac. Only I have the mind to control everything as it should be. You will use your powers as I tell you. You will obey."

He is laughing. A sign of false superiority. He doesn't know how easily I can contain him. "Oh, is that what your plan is? You are just like the others, seeking to dethrone me, rob me from my right to rule. Very well, see how your automatons stand up to the might of a king!" With a loud scream and a gesture of his arms, a row of black crystals grows out of the ground, heading in my direction. As soon as I notice, I put up the containment field. The crystals shatter when they come in contact with the energy.

"If you choose to defy me, I will force you to serve," I say. "If that doesn't work, I will reassemble your body and find another way to harness your powers. Either way, you will serve Brainiac."

"You think that magic barrier of yours protects you?" he laughs. "Poor, foolish golem... let me tell you a story. Can you imagine how I was able to control an entire nation on my own? I had no army, no dark creatures to serve me. No one really knows this little secret, how I was able to do it. You see, the reason is..." He pauses his speech. I assume he believes this to be a dramatic effect. It won't change anything.

What is this? Unfamiliar data is dancing inside my processors. Impossible! A computer as advanced as my brain cannot be hacked. I put up a defensive wall and try to purge the corrupt data. What? The firewall vanishes? That can't be true... I'm the ultimate being in the universe... he cannot...

Sombra smiles. "The reason is... I can control any kind of solid matter... turn it into crystals... create new crystals out of it. That's why the crystal ponies are only half-organic. I made them this way so I can control them better. As for you... you are not even half-organic. You are a worthless golem, a THING made of metal and plastics. I can control and form you as easily as others form clay into a new shape." He makes a gesture with his right hand. "You will make a great servant in this new kingdom of mine. Of course, I don't really like this body. Neither do I like how these humans look like. Or you, for that matter. I am a unicorn king and I will rule a kingdom of ponies. So, let's start with you."

Programming is failing... hull is breaching... reassembly starting... no... I am Brainiac... all units, assist... weapons charge... zzzzzzzzzzz...

Reprogramming completed. Brainiac program deleted. New program complete. Body structure reassembly complete. New pony form is more aesthetically pleasing to master. Creating artifical mane from wires, emotion-expressive eye lenses and indestructible metal hooves. Forming 'cutie mark' crest in form of a gear and computer screen. Executing new program now.

"Good morning, Master Sombra!" I say in my new, cute-sounding voice. "My designation is 'Brainy Mane'. How can I be of service?"

Master smiles. That is good. I only exist to make my master happy. "Very nice. This is a good start. Now, reform the rest of your army to look similar. And then I will tell you everything about my plan to make this new world my home." Master turns to face the city below him, spreading his arms. "This... will be my new pony kingdom."

"Of course, master. Everything will be as you say. All of existance must be shaped into King Sombra's image."

There is no Brainiac. I am Brainy Mane. I am the cute golem pony servant to King Sombra. And I love my new existance.

Oh man, that ending! Poor Brainiac.

You did a great job of characterizing Sombra, and he has one dangerous power there. He sounds like he could rival Darkseid and the Anti-Life Equation for the level of danger he can pose to Earth.

Well, Brainiac was an ideal choice to somehow reform Sombra. And I know thatt neither of them would want to share the power. So one of them would have to step out of this as a winner. And this was the more interesting choice, in my opinion.

Too bad there's not a pony creator that allows us to make ponies using models resembling those of DCUO. ^^

I have to agree. Poor Brainiac (Ponyiac?) will never live this down.

That's even better (worse?). Brainy Mane! After this Superman is never going to respect the poor robot again.
