Description Ahhh talk about a rush job! On the one hand it's nice to churn out two deviations in one week, on the other, it'd also be nice if I was fully satisfied with both of them. But that's fine, I'm mostly just really happy I managed to get this drawing done in time Β
This is my entry for the Modern Ghibli contest hosted by

I really, really liked the chosen theme, so I had to enter no matter what! Initially I wanted to draw one of my favourite Ghibli characters, like Howl, Chichiro or Haku, but then I remembered that, of course, Grave of the Fireflies is also a Ghibli movie! I have to admit, when I think Ghibli I think Miyazaki fairy tale, and that is probably what the studio is most known for, but anyone who has seen it knows that Grave of the Fireflies is a very powerful film. And very depressing D: I don't think I actually want to rewatch it anytime soon, just because I know I'd feel horrible after, even though I think it's a very well written production!

Anyway, the idea of drawing Seita and Setsuko in a modern setting would not leave me alone. I particularly like the idea that, had they been born in a different time, they would probably end up having a completely normal, happy childhood and none of the tragedy that befalls them would have ever happened. Such a nice AU ^^ I think Seita would be a fairly typical middle school student, and I can imagine him complaining loudly to his mom every time she'd make him babysit Setsuko when he just wants to go out and play catch with his friends, but in the end, he always ends up spoiling Setsuko when he does spend time with her

Anyway, due to time constrains I had to keep it very simple- there are plenty of things I'd have liked to fix, but the deadline is approaching fast, so though luck, I guess. I do like how their clothes turned out, I tried to reference their canon clothing, which was quite a bit of fun. And, even though I struggled with it at first, drawing a piggyback ride also turned out to be a nice challenge!

It's like Seita and Setsuko had gotten a second chance in life. I'm very grateful that you did this. Thank You. <3

It's pretty! (and heartwarming) Well, I too couldn't help myself imagining them in a modern era. I like the urban clothing you choosed.

I told my friend that Hotaru no Haka was a very beautfiful film but probably the saddest film ever made...
She said 'I'm okay with sad stories. I like to cry'.. I. LIKE. TO. CRY.
I feel like an horrible person now. I might have ruined her chilhood.

Thank you! I'm glad you like it And I think your friend will get over it, I mean, we lived, didn't we? Did she like the film?

Well, she liked it very much. I'm happy I have friends who understand that sad movies aren't bad movies! (‒̀ᴗ‒́)و Μ‘Μ‘

Haha, those are the ones to hold on to! If you and your friend like sad anime films, maybe you'll also enjoy some of Shinkai Makoto's work, like 5 Centimeter per Second. His movies are rather slow-paced and deal with a very different type of sadness, but the ones I've seen were really good. And I haven't watched it myself, but Barefoot Gen is supposedly similar (in theme, at least) to Grave of the Fireflies ^^

Ah I've heard about 5 centimenter per second but haven't watched it yet. Thanks! I will check them.

So... now that we're talking about anime movies, did you watch Kara no Kyoukai/Garden of Sinners?

I haven't yet, but it's been on my watchlist forever! Seemed like a nice and creepy late evening film series. Is it any good?

Creepy? Well it didn't scare me but I guess the psychos in those movies might freak you out with their madness.
At the beginning, it's a litlle hard to understand but it's worth it.
No, really I've watched all of them and it's a good film series. (q‒̀ᴗ-)✧ Very poetic.Β ( Β = α΅• = )

Though I would lie if I don't tell you that sometimes it's harsh and cruel with some of the characters.

Ah, that's what I gathered from the friend who recommended me the films, but maybe her horror tolerance is lower than yours But then I'll try to get around to watching the series soon! Just a little preoccupied right now with figuring out which anime are worth following this season OTL

q(*^β–½^*)γ‚ž Y-yea, it sure takes a lot to scare or disgust me. So if KnK traumatizes you I'm sorry.

I know right?! (currently I'm waiting until the Spring of 2017 because there are AoT 2nd season, Black Butler Book of Atlantic but this season there are Ajin 2nd Season, Kagerou Daze, Bungou Stray Dogs)

Don't worry, my tolerance is pretty high, particularly with anime And else I'll know whom to send the psychiatrist's bill to

Oooh, there making an adaptation of the Campania arc of Kuroshitsuji? Awesome! And here I was thinking the new season of SnK was the only thing to look forward to
I'm glad they finally released the sub for the first episode of the new Ajin season~ Kagerou Daze also seemed interesting, but Bungou Stray Dogs never really managed to win me over, in spite of the cool character designs. Still trying to figure out the rest of the new season's offering...I think I'll definitely be keeping an eye on Sangatsu no Lion and Yuri on Ice, but I'm not sure about the rest yet.

Happy to hear that we've the same taste.
I hope Kagerou Daze will be good. Somehow I feel like this new anime has the same purpose as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood: we forget the first season and do a better adaptation lol

Same! Always good to have someone to exchange recommendations with. I'm not familiar with the Kagerou Daze source material, but if it'll by like Bortherhood in terms of quality I've got nothing to complain about
