Description species: male Great Tit (Parus major)

camera: Olympus SP550UZ
location: Vienna, Austria

Thank you very much for your support in advance! I apologize for not responding to all comments and faves given. I appreciate all of them. Please understand, that I don´t have enough time. Thank you!

I think he looks like waiting for something; hence the title. It doesn´t have to do anything with the birds behaviour. >.^

This is a great shot. You managed to get his eye so fantastic. Its hard with a great tit as the black eye is in the back feathers and makes it hard to capture. Even got a catch light in it ... well done xxx

Aww, thank you!
I´m getting faster with aiming (vocab) and focusing on their eyes/heads. Their black and white head makes it easier for the AF, I think. I still have problems with getting birds sharp who have as good as no contrast in their coloring, like female chaffinches.
And adjusting the focus manuelly takes much too long with this camera. It´s only possible ver the display pushing the up- and downwards buttons. *argh*

May I ask how you focus? The AF sometimes doesn´t work like I want and the other method is too slow. Maybe I need more training?!

CharmingPhotography In reply to Sikaris [2008-04-29 17:36:44 +0000 UTC]

Its not the question of traiing.. it depends on how fast the lens is in focusing. The faster the lens the better. Thats why professionals do use a very fast lens... such as a 2.8.... while the normal lenses are 5.6 or so. Dont ask me what the numbers mean I dont have a clue lol. I just know that the smaller the number the faster the lens and the better for bird/action photos lol. I use auto focus all the time. I wear glasses and cant really see very well pmsl. So manually focus is out for me. It just would be one big blurr for everyone else lol. xx

Thank you!!! Then it´s not me.

I´m already saving money for a better camera, though I´ve not the slightest clue which one. >.^ I hope to find one where I can use my father´s lenses;*fingers crossed* But they´re 20+ years old. I doubt to they´ll be compatible...

CharmingPhotography In reply to Sikaris [2008-04-29 20:55:18 +0000 UTC]

well .. it depends on what lenses he got. My canon 200-400 mm 5.6 lens is ancient.. but it fits on the canon camera I am using. The only draw bag on old lenses is that they are very heavy cause they are using propper glass insight .. rather then the new plasticy stuff used in newer lenses. But before getting a camera or lenses.. check it out and see whats compatible. They should know in the shops for sure xx

Thank you very much for your advice! I hope some may fit. *fingers crossed*
I´ll start my 'investigations' at the beginning of june, if university allows. At the moment I´m very busy with physics. *argh*

The test is at the ending of May. I´ve still a little over 100 pages in the book to learn ( A4; little letters).
Although I´m getting out in the parks and the zoo as often as possible. I just need something to 'clear' my brain from time to time. Now I only need to find a way to keep track of dA as well. Recently I´m always very tired at night and stay in front of the tv-set (I don´t have a laptop and the compy is in the other room...). xx

CharmingPhotography In reply to Sikaris [2008-05-05 05:49:11 +0000 UTC]

You do whatever is best for you and if dA has to wait then so be it. If you do to much at the same time you just burn yourself out. A balance between work and play is very important and fresh air is healthier then sitting in front of a comp. xxx

Sikaris In reply to CharmingPhotography [2008-05-05 13:55:12 +0000 UTC]

You´re completly right! Thank you!
I only have to watch out, that balance isn´t shifted (vocab?) towards the play. oO

yea vocab is ok lol. Dont get side tracked. xx

But I haven´t done more than taking the photos. The cuteness comes from the birdies themselves.

Thank you very much for commenting and faving.

I was lucky, that this little guy hopped around just in front of me. I always wanted to get a close-up of one. I hadn´t to cropp much away, only a little to give the photo an other shape.
-> Yes, I´m still happy.
