Description Working on a series of three smaller pastels for our kitchen with a theme of food, this one having peppers. Nice thing about this was that it fit on the scanner, so I can post it on dA with more ease than photographing it.

My gosh, that's gorgeous. I didn't know it was possible to make pastels look so good! My favorite part is the reflections, and how crisp and shiny it is. Nice contrast with the yellow vs. purple!

Thanks! I owe it to my college class. They can be a pain, but you really can't complain when you see the end result.

Is this soft pastels?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silentsketcher In reply to skullmage550 [2009-02-09 02:26:06 +0000 UTC]

It's mostly done in Prismacolor Nupastels, which are hard. There is just a little use of Rembrandt, which are soft.

For some reason, I'm reminded of [link]

But really, these are very photo realistic. The contrast of the Yellow and Purple is fantastic, and pastels tend to be a bitch to use.. Kudos!

I like it.

Completely agree with you on pastels being a bitch. It's so hard to keep it looking clean.

Yeah, I agree with you on the medium. Pastels can be obstinate at times. Anyway, glad you like this.

This is beautiful. I'm trying to get back into pastels. What type of pastels did you use and on what paper? I want to make sure I get the right stuff before I buy anything.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

silentsketcher In reply to TurnOffTheSun [2009-02-06 00:12:05 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I use Prismacolor Nupastels and sometimes Rembrandt, since those are softer. As for the paper, I usually go with Canson.
