Description   Evan put down his guitar. "Well, Angel? What do you think?" he said, turning around to address the Arcanine sitting behind him on his bed.
"Beautiful, Evan. You really know your Beatles songs," Angel said with a smile. She licked her paw like a cat. "Do you think you're ready to perform tonight?"
"I sure hope so. I want our band to blow them away." Evan stood up and stretched. He was a handsome young man, a senior at Violet City High School in the Johto region. A bit on the skinny side, Evan stood just under two meters tall, making him the second tallest of his band, Crowning Moment. He fiddled with the blue band that kept his long, brown hair in a wolftail that brought to mind the image of Zoroark. "You think I ought to take a shower, Angel?"
Angel chuckled. "What do you think?"
"I think I've been paying more attention to your grooming than mine. I'll be right back." They both laughed as Evan walked out of the room.

Angel rested her head on her front paws. She was glad that she had a friend like Evan. She thought back to the day they met, ten years earlier. She had decided to tour the Johto region on a whim, no destination in mind. She was in the middle of exploring the dark cave that connected Violet City to Route 45 when she sensed someone in danger. Evan, then a young boy, had wandered into the cave without any Pokémon to protect him. He had not gone far before being attacked by a group of Zubats. Unarmed and unprepared, Evan had no means of fighting and little chance of escape. Feeling pity for the lost child, Angel charged in and fought off the wild Pokémon. She approached Evan gently.
  "Are you okay?" she asked.
Evan, afraid for his life and having encountered a talking Pokémon for the first time, was at a loss for words, and so slowly nodded his head.
"Get on my back. I'll get you out of here," she said. Like a Yoshi, she battled her way through the mobs of wild Pokémon in the cave, all the while watching over the child on her back. In fifteen minutes, they had stepped into the sunlit woods of Route 31.
"Th-thank you..." Evan stammered. "I... My name's Evan."
"My name is Angel. Do you live nearby, Evan?"
"I live... I live in Violet City."
"Come on, then. I'll take you home."
When Angel had brought Evan back to his house, Evan begged his mother to let him keep her as a pet. Angel was more than happy to demonstrate that she could take care of both herself and Evan, and so joined the family to the delight of everyone involved.

Ten years later, Angel's friendship with Evan had grown into something far deeper, but like most such relationships, Angel found it hard to express her true feelings for Evan and wondered if he felt the same way. But... something about today was different. For some reason, she felt like, for the first time, she had the confidence to confess to Evan. She thought of the most romantic place she could take him and decided in her mind that this would be the day.

Evan walked back into the room, clean and refreshed. "Well, Angel. This is it. The concert starts in an hour, so we gotta get over to the park to rehearse."
Angel stood up and carefully stepped down off the bed. It was a rather flimsy bed; not enough for her weight alone to break it, but who knows what might happen if she tried to jump. She and Evan walked together to Violet City's park. The other band members were already assembled.
"Hiya Evan!" the anthro Treecko behind the drums greeted with a wave.
"Hey Jude, Kevin," Evan replied, addressing both the Treecko and the human bassist.
"You and Angel ready to rehearse?"
"Are we ever!" Evan and Angel answered in unison. They looked at each other with a smile.

"All right, our first song is She Loves You." Evan clipped the microphone to Angel's chest fur and readied his guitar. "Let's start with the second verse."
"All right," Jude said, picking up his drumsticks. "One, two, 1 2 3 4!"
The boys began playing their instruments and everybody began to sing.

They continued rehearsing until 7:00. Then Crowning Moment's fans began to arrive. Evan noticed that several fans were dressed in Treecko and Arcanine costumes and chuckled.
"All right, everyone ready?" Jude asked. Without waiting for a response, he continued, "Let's do this!"

Crowning Moment played several songs, ending with the Beatles hit "Hey Jude". As Angel sang, she reflected that while the song addressed a man named Jude (ironically, the name of a band member), she was really singing this song for Evan. As such, when the second chorus and final verse came, she poured her heart and soul into her voice and silently prayed that Evan would indeed let her into his heart that night.

At the very end of the concert, after Jude, Kevin, and the fans left, Angel approached Evan in much the same way she had done ten years ago.
"Evan, ride on my back. I have some thing I want to show you." Without hesitating, Evan mounted her and she dashed off toward the most beautiful place in the Johto region: the peak of Mt. Silver.

One mountain climb later, Angel stopped and looked up at the sky. Evan stood up and looked around. "So what's here, Angel?"
"Look up, Evan. The sky... it's beautiful today, isn't it?"
Evan looked up. "Yeah. You can see hundreds of constellations tonight. Look, there's Togekiss."
Angel laid her eyes on the Togekiss constellation. Togekiss was a Pokémon said to bring great happiness, so she regarded it as a good omen.
"Hey, a shooting star!" Evan shouted, pointing up at a meteor streaking overhead. Angel closed her eyes and made a wish. A mysterious voice rang in her mind.

Take hold of him, and two shall become one...

When Angel heard this, she decided she couldn't wait any longer. "Evan... Come here, please." When Evan walked near. Angel stood up on her hind legs and wrapped her front legs around him, squeezing him as tightly as he could without breaking his ribcage. As she did so, a strange, viscous, orange substance collected on her fur. Evan took hold of her paws and held them in front of him.
  "...Angel? What was that about?"
The orange substance dripped down Angel's lustrous coat and pooled around her hind paws. "Evan... do you love me?"
Tears welled up in Evan's large blue eyes. "Yes, Angel, I do. God knows how long I've loved you, but I've never been able to say it. You're like a sister to me, Angel."
"More than a sister, Evan," Angel said. The pool of orange goo spread out until it touched Evan's shoes, and it began to build up around them. "Evan... I love you. I always have. And now I'm telling you for the first time, and I can't help but cry."
"I think you're sweating too, or something. Look." Angel looked down at the orange goo, watching as it formed the shape of large paws around Evan's shoes. "What's the deal with this stuff?"
At the same time, cream-colored goo began to spread from Angel's front paws to Evan's hands, encasing them and forming into another set of paws. "I... don't know, Evan. But I don't think this is bad."
Evan thought this over for five seconds, then looked Angel in the eyes. "Kiss me, Angel."
As Evan and Angel closed their eyes and kissed, goo began to cover the area around Evan's mouth, extending outward into a muzzle. It climbed up Evan's head and enveloped his ears, moving them upward and elongating them until they were identical to Angel's large ears. Some of the goo on his cheeks began to crystallize into soft fur and change the color of his hair. Meanwhile, the goo at Evan's feet had crawled up to his shorts, and Evan felt a sudden surge of power in his legs. Not only that, but a large amount of it had begun to pile up at the base of his spine. He could feel it forming into a fluffy tail, which he gave a quick flick as if to reassure him that this was really happening. More fur grew at his elbows and heels.
The goo had now enveloped Evan's face and most of his body, including his clothes. He opened his eyes and realized that he was now seeing through the eyes of an Arcanine. He could hear and smell things he couldn't before, and the goo covering him no longer felt like such, but like a natural part of his own body, as though it had fused into his skin. He reached down with what had once been his left hand and felt his fur, which was now marked with black stripes. It felt just as real and soft as Angel's fur. He could even feel a fire igniting inside him, filling him with the energy and warmth of a Fire Pokémon's love.
"Angel... this is a miracle," Evan said. "I'm turning into an Arcanine, and this... this means..."
"We can be together for real. Forever, Evan."
"Forever and ever and ever." They laughed together for sheer joy.
The bare spots still remaining on Evan's body finally closed, completing the transformation. Evan got down on all fours and walked around to adjust to his new body. Then he stood next to Angel and looked up at the sky. As he stood by his loves side, he could only think of one thing to say.
"Angel... who says dreams don't come true?"

Awww it's beautiful.
But I do find the scenen where Angel and Evan declare their love somewhat rushed. Ah well, the story overall is very good. ^^

"Hey Jude". I noticed that reference instantly. I take it you like the Beatles?

My sister went through a phase where the Beatles was the only band she'd ever listen to. She only had two or three albums of theirs, so I heard the same songs over and over and over again. They're a really great band, but I'm still trying to get that blasted Yellow Submarine to leave my ear.

Of course, I went through the same thing with Elvis Presley before I discovered that most of the good songs he wrote were essentially stolen. Now my musical tastes range from Rise Against and DragonForce to Danny Elfman and Stephen Sondheim.

Unfortunately for me, that was before I had gotten an iPod Shuffle.
