I went to visit the Lisbon Zoo this summer :3

Last time I went there was years ago, so I am happy beyond words to see how good it has become! The enclosures are spacious and well-adapted to the animal's life-style. There was also lots of environmental enrichment, which is one of the things zoos usually neglect. I don't recall seeing pacing or other stereotyped behaviours, which is just... amazing

Furthermore, information was delivered in interesting ways. My favourite? The tiger awareness exposition, that showed vials with small polystyrene balls for the population of each tiger subspecies, including empty vials for the 3 extinct subspecies. Reminded me of some of the strategies used in the London National History Museum *claps*

Species: White rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum)

The White rhinoceros isn't actually white. The name is believed to come from a mistranslation of the Dutch "wijd", that means "wide". If you're trying to guess if a rhino is White or Black, look at its mouth. The White rhinoceros has a wide straight mouth, while the Black rhino's upper lip forms a hook downwards.
