Jeez, that sucks. I once had my Togetic on a SS nuzlocke run use metronome in a double battle and got explosion. I was not happy with that as it took out my Butterfree, who was one of my best Pokemon. I haven't really done much on it since.
On a side note, I also remember getting a Pikachu that knew Self-Destruct on a regular playthrough. I had a lot of fun with that since I'm not a big Pikachu fan.

Yeah, it takes a while before they got good damage dealing moves. Especially in Gen II @_@ They don't learn Shadow Ball by leveling up, so you have to wait until you beat Morty to teach them the TM.

Mean Look, Spite and Hypnosis are helpful but don't hurt the foe while Curse is really risky to use in a Nuzlocke.

In the end, mine quickly evolved into a Gengar so I could teach him a Fire/Ice/Thunder Punch through a TM since their SP.ATK is really high. After that, he became one of my three most reliable partners.
