Description
So when I was finishing college last year the music department were throwing out all the old equipment. I asked if i could have the cymbal ( if i had a car i would have recused a lot more) I have been playing about with up cycling redundant objects and wondered what I could do with it. I have also been cross stitching into solid objects. The cymbal is very reflective and had to give it some thought as to what I would do. I decided upon a fish and the reflective ness of the cymbal acts as the water. I took a picture of a Koi, converted it to a cross stitch pattern, drilled the holes, 1 hole for 4 passes through of the thread. Once all the stitching had been done I added some detail using a hand engraver to highlight the koi's face, fins and tail, then free handed some ripples by the tail.Related content

Altough I am a drummer, so am a bit sad to hear of all the equipment being thrown away I do love this piece! The reflection and the image of the Koi work very well together cause water reflects as well in a way. Also really like how the fish wraps itself around the middle of the Cymbal. Also think you did well on the combination of cross stitch and engraving. Usually one would backstitch something like that, but engraving makes much more sense for the medium you're working with.
i think the best compromis would be to see if the cymbal is still usable (I fear not though), cause a cymbal with cross stitch sounds like the perfect kit to me.

Yeah i was annoyed because there was nothing wrong with most of stuff they threw out, i think they were being lazy by just dumping it. Thank you very much for your comment, its nice to get some feedback, unfortunately I'm not musically inclined, even though it still makes a cymbal sound i cant really tell if its in tune. 😁

Yeah with some effort they probably could have found many people who wanted to buy a second hand kit. Probably even among their own students.
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to tell as well, cause haven't gotten really good at drumming yet and one of the benefits of that instrument is that rhythm skills are more important than being able to distinguish tune
