I think this piece could be greatly improved in two ways:
1. Put a little variation into your line work. Instead of making the lines in the background lighter, try making them thinner, for instance. It will help to make the figure seem more like it's in of the scene as opposed to on the scene, and adds a little more of your personal style into the image, because most people have their own way of working with varying line weights. Also, if you're going to use lines that are colored, do it on the whole image, the black lines on the figure are way too heavy compared to the rest of the image, even the wolf has lighter lines making him fade back into the picture compared to the person.
2. Use more reference. The wolf in particular is slightly distorted and looks a little too 'cartoony' compared to the rest of the image. If you want to draw a wolf, find 20 pictures of wolves and use them as much as possible. It will help with things like placing the eyes and so on. If you're looking for that cartoon kind of feeling, carry it through to the whole image, not just parts of it. It looks like you went for quite a lot of realism on the figure, but then put in a very simple background with no texture. Backrounds shouldn't have less detail necessarily, just less emphasis. You can do a lot for your background/foreground combination by choosing your colors more carefully, like putting colder colors or tones in the BG and warmer ones in the foreground.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth. I'll add that your composition is pretty good and you've got a good feeling of wind and movement going on. You also seem to have a nice grasp of cloth and shape. Your skill is definitely quite apparent, but your technique is letting you down a bit. Keep it up though, I've seen far far worse in my time browsing here and you're not a long way from being very good at this.

The good: the wolf is well rendered and I like the composition
The Bad: the robe really needs some more shading...at the moment it just looks kinda flat. Also in the distance things tend to get a little foggy so a blur would have been nice on the mountains for atmospheric effect
Yeah I know...art nazi ::bow bow:: butcha did ask for critiques

What I do sometimes is put a noise and blur filter on them on another layer and then some noise on screen at 20%. I don't really have much atmospherics in my gallery...the'yre mostly in my comics
