Description I normally try to draw only from imagination and don't draw from pictures, but I decided I would draw some celebrities just for practice and to hopefully perhaps increase my popularity a bit since it seems to me that people on here may be more likely view and favorite things that they already like rather than original characters they know nothing about. Also I know if I draw things from a picture, they will probably look a bit more impressive simply because it's a lot easier to draw something well that you can see than it is to draw something well from imagination.

Thank you very much. Zooey Deschanel has such lovely expressions, so that is what I hoped to capture, and I think I managed to do so pretty successfully.

What medium do you use?

For these I just use a 0.5 mm mechanical pencil.

..holy crap, that hair must've taken forever! I thought it was charcoal at first

Eh, not that long really, the drawing is probably much smaller than you think haha. When I'm drawing with pencil I usually draw pretty small so that it won't take forever. The whole drawing probably took 2-3 hours.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AMomentBetweenSleep In reply to singewyvern [2011-08-16 01:44:38 +0000 UTC]

Most of my drawings take up a good portion of standard printer paper, and they take around 1-2 hours, depending if I add color or not. The hair is just so heavy and detailed, I'm not that skilled so I can't really comprehend how difficult that is

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 01:55:42 +0000 UTC]

If I was going to do a drawing like this with mechanical pencil that took up a whole sheet of 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper...it would take forever, probably more like 6-10 hours. This drawing's only about 4 x 4.5 inches, pretty much the same size that it is viewed on here without zooming in, on my screen anyway.

You're probably much more meticulous when it comes to art too. I've actually never taken a formal class, so you probably have techniques while I'm just fooling around

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 02:10:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I am kind of a perfectionist, and I suppose I have techniques, but as far as drawing goes I'd say most of what I do is just self taught over years of practice

I really only started drawing about 2 years ago, and I didn't use any shading until about 1 year ago, so I'm still a noob XD

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 02:39:30 +0000 UTC]

I see, I've been drawing for like as long as I can remember, and I think I pretty much used shading for as long as I've been drawing, but I guess I'd say you're pretty good to have only been drawing for a couple of years, you're better than a lot of people who have been drawing for a lot longer.

Thanks I think I've always been a bit artistic, but it was never my passion, so I didn't really pursue it more than a hobby/excuse not to spend money on special occasions XD The thing that I love most is the reactions of people when, after I show them/give them one of my drawings, I say that I want to go into physics instead of art. Their jaws DROP, it's quite funny

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 03:39:50 +0000 UTC]

I've always been a genius, top of my class and all, so people probably expected me to do something other than art regardless of how good I was at art.

See, I COULD be top of my class, except I really couldn't give less of a fuck about high school. I got in the 99th percentile in every section on the PSAT's, so once I take the actual SAT's, I'm pretty confident that I'll score quite high. After that, I just coast

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 05:19:21 +0000 UTC]

I always just figured while I'm at school, I don't have much better to do than the school work, so I just do it and get it over with. I also figured it's less trouble to do the work than it is to put up with people nagging you to do it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AMomentBetweenSleep In reply to singewyvern [2011-08-16 05:25:24 +0000 UTC]

The thing is, I get high 80's to low 90's without putting any real effort in. If I get a high enough score on the SAT's, it really doesn't matter too much if my GPA is 80's or 90's. That and the internet soaks up a vast majority of my time

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 17:59:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I never put forth much effort either, I could usually finish assignments before class was over or in extra time in another class and would never have homework, and I never studied for tests except like 5 minutes before taking them I'd look over everything.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AMomentBetweenSleep In reply to singewyvern [2011-08-16 20:53:55 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly the same thing I do, except for tests I don't really bother looking the stuff over. Unless it's chemistry. God I hate that science...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 21:14:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I guess I probably would have made high 80's to low 90's range on tests if I didn't look the stuff over right before class, but I figured I might as well make 100 haha. If you want to go into Physics, or any science for that matter in college, I'm sure you will have to take a lot of every science...honestly I think it would really suck to be a science major in college. From the science classes I had in college, it seems like they have like 3 or 4 times as many tests as other classes, and then you have lab times that are separate from class times, which make them longer than other classes too.

Biology I liked, physics is my passion, like I have 3 textbooks on quantum theory that I bought for recreation XD Chemistry is just annoying. I like learning about how things work, not the stuff that makes them up. And my fortΓ© is sub-atomic, mostly

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-16 23:45:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, physics is interesting in theory...but when I had the physics class I had in college, doing the work was just so much math and crazy formulas to remember...it was more math than any math class I've ever had haha.

AMomentBetweenSleep In reply to singewyvern [2011-08-17 00:44:56 +0000 UTC]

Well I don't really know if it's a good thing or not, because I think I'm just becoming increasingly like Dr. Manhattan and just becoming completely detached from the world since I don't care much one way or the other about anything...but as long as I just become all powerful like Dr. Manhattan too, I guess it will be okay haha.

I have a lot of varied material on my computer, just because one of my favorite hobbies is to make mix cd's for my friends. So I pick up a lot of random music because a lot of times I try to send a message through the songs. Use the lyrics to say what I'm too afraid to tell

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-21 06:59:06 +0000 UTC]

I see, I have done that before with songs, though not really because I was afraid to say things, because if that was the case then I would be afraid to use the song for that purpose either...but I did it because the second girl I dated did that, so she would send me a song, and I would send one back, etc.

I've never been a big conversationalist when actually with a person, because I'm kinda socially awkward, and very shy. With text, I can think about what to say before I say it, and with songs it's pretty much the same thing. Kind of a coward's way out, I know, but it seems like girls think it's sweet, so I must be doing something right

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-22 05:40:14 +0000 UTC]

Oh I know what you mean, because I'm a socially awkward, quiet person as well and hardly ever talk to anyone in person. I don't know that I would really say I'm shy, but I'm just very pessimistic. I'm too good at seeing all of the potential bad outcomes of every action, so I generally end up taking no action haha.

I'm pessimistic in that I hate the human race as a whole, but I'm optimistic that I'll give individuals a chance. Just in the odd chance that I'll meet someone worth saving

I used to think that way, but I'm not one to gamble, especially not when the odds seem so highly against me. I used to think I would be able to determine if a person was that rare good one, but now I've come to think it's probably impossible to tell until it's too late.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-23 21:09:26 +0000 UTC]

Yeah a lot of things that normal people are bothered by or worried about don't bother me either, and only one of my relationships really hurt when it ended, but I guess the thing that bothers me the most about the relationships I've had is probably the caliber of people that I was cheated on with and left for...I mean, in the last relationship I had, the girl cheated on me with and left me for her own brother...he was adopted, but still they grew up like brother and sister and everything...and out of the couple of times I talked to him, the feeling I got from him was basically the evilest being I have ever talked to and in all honestly probably demon possessed. Of course when their mom caught them making out, she kicked him out of the house, and then a week or so later he tried to stab her and then got put in a mental institution...and that's the kind of person who is somehow better than me...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AMomentBetweenSleep In reply to singewyvern [2011-08-23 22:07:30 +0000 UTC]

That person isn't better than you, that person is able to manipulate people to do what he wants. Psychopaths like to do that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-24 02:33:49 +0000 UTC]

I guess I know he's not really better than me, but it's just annoying that women seem to prefer people like that and no amount of effort I can put into a relationship can stop them from leaving me for someone like that.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AMomentBetweenSleep In reply to singewyvern [2011-08-24 02:43:04 +0000 UTC]

It's not women in general, trust me. I still cringe at the thought of what you've been through, I couldn't imagine that kind of hurt. Just makes me want to modify the zombie virus I'm designing to only affect a certain level of stupidity and evilness in the population.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

singewyvern In reply to AMomentBetweenSleep [2011-08-24 21:16:24 +0000 UTC]

That would be good, but I'm not sure if evil can be calculated on a scientific level though...but see I'm thinking in a zombie apocalypse people are either going to step up and become better people or clearly be bad people. Of course, I think naturally the reduction of available living people and local confinement among a group would lead to an increase in fidelity as well.
