As the crowd dispersed, only a few remained. Paulie stood by himself, distant and lonely, already missing his father. Persia, too, seemed to be keeping to herself a little, casting a glance towards the illumise, Embory, every now and again. Embory was talking up a storm with Meranda – it seemed the two got along very well, and that they had missed one another very much in the time they had been apart. Penumbra, now that she was sure no-one else was in danger, felt very weak and tired. She’d taken quite the beating from the icy wind and the fierce snowstorm, and was just beginning to settle down when a figure loomed over her, and she stared up, startled.

“No need to fear, little one,” came a gentle voice. The tropius lowered her head, a beautiful smile on her lips. “I am Miss Holly, and I was returning someone to safety. He got himself into an awful lot of trouble, you know? He says that he knows you.”

Penumbra, who had been studying the Tropius’s bandanna (that seemed very similar in colour to Paulie’s), and admiring the subtle little curl on top of Miss Holly’s head, blinked and tilted her head questioningly.

A figure hopped off the grass-type’s back, and winced, holding up a paw, twitching his tail irritably. “Hello again, Little Sparrow. Get everyone out alright, I presume?”

“Oh, Jazz! Hi. Did you, um, find your friend?” Penumbra hopped towards him, her eyes hopeful.

The glameow just shook his head, his tufted ears drooping miserably. He wandered away to flop down on some dry ground.

Penumbra followed, hoping to lift his spirits, and soothe his fears a little. “Don’t worry, Jazz. I’m sure she’ll be fine. If she’s a friend of yours, she must be strong and brave like you!”

The cat scowled and his face darkened. “Don’t say those things. Because I’m not. I’m nothing more than a coward, who hides in shadows and mystery.” He shook his head lightly, softening. “And I worry so much about her, Penumbra, because she is blind.”

“Oh,” Pen said softly, surprised by his attitude towards himself, and then saddened by the words about his friend. “She’ll be alright, though! I’m sure. Paulie’s dad has gone looking for her. If anyone can find her, it’s him. Lucian, the Sentinel.”

Jasper turned away, his face full of doubt. He shivered.

“You’re cold,” Pen said, moving towards him. “So am I. I was just about to settle down and recover. Maybe we could sit together, and keep each other warm?” She only suggested these things, because she had warmed somewhat to the enigmatic cat, and wanted to cheer him up. Besides, two was always better than one, and it was much easier to stay warm if you had someone next to you, sharing the cold.

Beyond them, Meranda went off in search of her sack that had been dropped somewhere in the area, Embory following to help her find it. When the two friends did come across the raggedy, dirty bag, Meranda checked inside it too see if anything was missing.

“Nope, all accounted for! Hey, Pen, did you want your sharp claw-thingy?” Meranda made her way over to the bird, who was snuggled up with Jasper.

“Mmm, please,” Pen murmured, opening her eyes a little. She stirred, rising to take the claw in her beak, and place it by one of Jasper’s paws. “You have it, Jazz. I won’t be able to do anything with it, and, who knows, maybe it will help you somehow.”

Meranda left them to their napping, and called out to Vertigo.

“Could you do me a favour, Vertigo?” She grinned up at him, her eyes wide.

“Sure, anything for you, Meranda. Thanks for helping me calm down earlier. I was just so overwhelmed by everything, I suppose.” The spinda grinned. “What can I do for you?”

“Oh, I was glad to help, really. I love to sing, so I do it whenever I can!” She laughed, before continuing. “I was wondering if you could look after my sack for me, just for a bit, so that poor Paulie doesn’t have to carry it in his mouth. Thanks Vertigo! I’ll be back later!” And with that, the shellos turned and left, the illumise following after her.

Vertigo was left holding the dirty sack at arm’s length, staring at it quizzically.

“Well done, you lot!” Shroomsworth said, approaching Paulie and Persia. “Now that we’ve got everyone out, we need to start evacuating. I’d like for you two, and your partners to go to the Law Firm and seek out Devonshire. He will tell you how to get the pokemon evacuated safely from Tao.”

“D-D-Devonshire?” Paulie paled, and lowered his head a little. The Rogue Guild Leader frightened him at times, and downright confused him at others.

“Yes, now run along, while Chrys and I check the rest of the buildings, to make sure we haven’t missed anyone.” And Shroomsworth turns to leave, not giving Paulie a chance to argue.

With a resigned sigh, the stantler turned and headed for the sleeping figure of Penumbra, his eyes widening with fear slightly, and nervousness gnawing in the pit of his stomach. Oh, what he would give to be brave like his father.

----------------------------------------------------------

Yay! No more trapped pokemon! Away to the tunnels they go! Only, Persia's feeling a little awkward with the presence of Embory, and hasn't yet made up with the illumise, and Paulie is missing his dad already, and isn't looking forwards to meeting up with Devonshire... We'll just have to wait and see how things pan out! I'm actually getting into a good pattern of writing now. Wrote out three parts yesterday, so, the future suddenly doesn't seem as daunting, as far as this collab is concerned. Anyway, hope you all enjoy it!

Yes, indeed!

And yeah, fingers crossed that she'll be okay! She may end up appearing in one of my other M5 entries...

And yes! At least, they'll attempt to...

Things like this happen sometimes, and you've got to fix them. I think you've done a great job.
