After writing articles on multiple different topics, I actually wondered if I will ever run out of things to say. And this time the challenge almost got me stumped. What in the world do I know that could be useful as a tutorial? After some serious thought (and soul-searching), I decided that there are so many people out there who knows how to do things, draw things and create things better than I can... the one thing I can always fall back to is science. The Science has got my back.
So, together with Science, we have decided to talk about how colours affect the way you think. And how that can translate to character creation. I have included a number of "professional examples" throughout the tutorial to illustrate my point. But I would really appreciate some feedback! So please let me know if Science and I did our jobs. And if you find this tutorial useful.

The impetus of writing this tutorial actually came from the world of advertising and graphic design. Colour theory has been widely studied in these fields in order to create logos and advertisements that tugs at the audiences in the right way. But its use in Anime and character design hasn't been quite well connected. We all use it from time to time... it's time to blow the lid wide open on it.

I'd seen some tutorials about hue, saturation and brightness before, but I hadn't seen any with color psychology, that is quite revealing

Colour psychology has been used extensively in advertising and graphic design. That's why a lot of products that want you to buy them impulsively use high contrast colours. And that's why health-food stores use a lot of green in their logos and hospitals use white and blue. It's all around us, you see... you just have to... see.
And now you know why SP and DP are the colours they are in, too! 
...Stop going around giving away trade secrets like that! They can read us like books now!

I wouldn't quite call it "homework". What this tutorial is doing is to give you a new tool for you to see through - like a new pair of glasses, if you will. And when you start to look at the world through this new pair of glasses, you will (hopefully) see a brand new world!
We are all about hiding secrets in plain sight!
That way we get to tell you that we are not hiding anything at all.
