I had this big styrofoam egg lying around for years....Finally I turned it into a dragonegg. Around 2600 thumbnails and quite some hours went into this one.
I experimented with spiral patterns. The downside of this is, that there are many *lose* ends, where the last thumbnail is not hold by any other, so I had to glue many pins in place.
After that I coated the whole thing with thick acrylic varnish, to glue everything together a bit. A spraycoat of matte black was followed by bronze spraypaint. After all this hardened, I added a rough coat of thin golden metal leaf and finally gave ithe surface a wash of green, black and sepia ink, enhancing some deep parts. The whole thing got a coat of clear protective varnish.
My best buddy and dearest friend is the model here, holding the egg to show the sheer size. Thank you!

This egg is very decorative, but could be a cosplay prop too. I am not yet sure if I will keep or sell it. I just wanted to CREATE it in the first place

I think so too! Maybe with a bit of swirly patterns in its scales... that would look just AWESOME! Worthy of a painting... but I am REALLY bad at creature design...

In writing or talking... no problem at all. I can describe well enough, I guess. At least my players tell me so often (I am a gamemaster). But painting... especially creatures.... difficult.
