As a girl who grew up in mountains, those just look weird. o.O
Nice picture, though!!

I think those are 'the feathers'. At least that what the rock climbers call them. Did you see anyone climbing?
Nice photo...I love that majesty of that formation against the blue skies of summer.

I based that on fav.me/d7fwlh4 . I don't know any better. Yes, I did see some ropes that indicated some climbers on the other side. I actually set up a much nicer shot - but the batteries in my camera died. I would like to spend a little more time exploring that coulee.
Thanks for the comment. Just one of several adventures inspired by you, my friend!

You seemed to have seen two of the highlights though...Palouse Falls and Frenchman Coulee. Now you need to add the Grand Coulee, Dry Falls, Northrup Point and several other geologic wonders. Oh and the Erratic...bus size stones dumped on the plateau by the ice age floods from Glacial Lake Missoula.

Literally hundreds of places to shoot, but regarding the Ice Age Floods there are about a dozen within 100 miles:
Ancient Lakes, Moses Coulee, Dry Falls, The Grand Coulee, Summer Falls, the Sun Lakes, the Big Bend of the Columbia, the Erratics on the plateau, Soap Lake, the Potholes, Crescent Bar, the Channeled Scablands and maybe a few more.
