Description MEGA LUXRAY (LUX (Latin for light) + X-RAY)
- Electric/Light
- Ability: True Sight*

Luxray's Mega Evolved form is Mega Luxray and can be accessed using the Luxrayite.
"Upon Mega Evolving, Luxray's whole body becomes overcharged with electricity. It has developed luxuriant fur around its neck and shoulders to shed excess charge, the act of which makes its fur patterns glow like starlight."
"When its eyes light up, nothing escapes its vision - whether its prey is far away, behind obstacles, or even in disguise, it will eventually be found. Some say it is even able to gaze through space at night and locate distant planets."

BST: 80/130/79/130/79/110 - 623

NOTE: Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray are now Electric/Light-type. Additional additions to the level-up movepools are Gleam (starting move for Shinx), Shimmer (replacing Baby-Doll Eyes for Shinx), and Shield Breaker (relearnable move for Luxio and Luxray). This line also has new egg moves Flash Step (from both Galarian and Kantonian Rapidash, who learn it via move tutor), Dash Attack (also from Rapidash as a new starting move in both forms - also available via TM), Swords Dance (from Raticate, Sandslash, or Casuarang ), and Chip Away (from Slaking, Rhyperior, or Scrafty). Notable new TMs and tutor moves are Solar Beam, Dazzling Gleam, Thunder Punch, Solar Blade, Solar Blast**, EM Pulse**, Dazzle, Laser Cutter, and Flash Bomb.

* For more information on the Light type and the italicized moves listed, check out the updated guide !

True Sight: Boosts the Pokémon's accuracy.
(Note #1: This is mechanically identical to CompoundEyes, i.e. a 1.3x attack accuracy boost. The Light-type status move Disappear, wherein attacks directed only at the user that have an accuracy of 100% will automatically miss for three turns, is negated by both this ability and CompoundEyes.)

** Solar Blast
Category: Special
Type: Fire
Power: 60
PP: 20
Accuracy: 100%
The user fires a radiant wave of intense heat at the foe. It may also confuse or burn the target. (Compare: Water Pulse.)

** EM Pulse
Category: Special
Type: Electric
Power: 60
PP: 20
Accuracy: 100%
The user attacks the foe with a disruptive pulse of electricity. It may also confuse or paralyze the target. (Compare: Water Pulse.)

**********

A bit of an unexpected surprise today, but I've been making a couple of little overhauls out of personal preference and also keeping in line with the canon Pokémon-related updates over the months. Unfortunately, Mega Rapidash is being retired. The existence of Galarian Rapidash led me to initially want to create a Mega Evolution for that one as well, but then I realized that it wouldn't make that much sense for me to provide a Mega to a regional variant because, as far as I'm aware, there isn't any evolutionary family that has both a regional variant AND a Mega Evolution (and I'm not sure if the upcoming Galarian Slowbro will get one, either, but I doubt it), so that does not set a precedent for Galarian Rapidash to get a Mega of its own. So Kantonian Mega Rapidash just had to go, even if I did like its design and flavor. In its place is a new Mega, of a species which would've been perfectly suited to adding a secondary Light typing in a similar manner to how Magnemite gained Steel and Whimsicott gained Fairy!

Although the Light typing was originally supposed to be based on a somewhat pseudo-religious theming, being attributed to heavenly beings and mythical critters geared towards fortune and benefit to people, I think I've subconsciously folded in enough traits for it to be considered a combination of the traditional fakemon artist's Light typing and the equally popular Cosmic type, especially given that starlight is, well, light coming from outer space. Looking at which other Pokémon I could retcon the Light-type to under this definition, I thought back to Luxray, because a friend of mine from the PPC has a Luxray OC. All three stages of the Shinx line mention light in some way, either via the name or flavor, and Luxray himself is "The Gleam Eyes Pokémon", and according to Bulbapedia he is partly based on the Leo constellation. I decided to play into that with the Mega's design, while also giving him pseudo-wings in a similar fashion to Mega Absol as a reference to the winged lion statue of Venice, associated with Mark the Evangelist as well as the city as a whole. It's a fairly logical extension of the themes he's got going for him, but in the interest of maintaining the cosmic theme I also made his mane look like a five-pointed star, and had at least one flavor dex entry mention that his eyes are basically like telescopes now, the big floaty orbiting kind used to observe stars and planets elsewhere in the galaxy.

Looking up the info about him on Smogon, I found that despite his colossal Physical attack, Luxray's poor speed and HP make him ill-suited to being a wallbreaker, so the stat buffs are meant to patch up those flaws. I decided to take a page from the book of Pokémaniacal and their own proposal for a hypothetical Mega Luxray , and make him a mixed sweeper with a specific ability that makes sure his ranged attacks always hit. Well, almost always anyway! From the base stat spread of 80/120/79/95/79/70, I added 55 points to Speed(!!!), 10 points to Attack, and the remaining 35 points to Special Attack. Thunder and Flash Bomb always hitting and with 130 Special Attack is nothing short of terrifying, though type resistances still apply - a bulky Grass-type or something with a protecting move can handle both of these attacks, for example. You can also go with the more typical option of using Wild Charge with Dash Attack or Flash Step as secondary STAB, but the recoil is a definite issue, so I also tossed in Thunder Punch as a TM for an alternative that doesn't basically put Mega Luxray on a timer - it's not as powerful, but it's still worth considering, especially with the absurd Attack stat Mega Luxray has going for him. Coverage moves are also there - Dazzling Gleam to take on Dragon- and Dark-types, a returning Fire Fang along with new Solar Blast as an egg move to deal with Grass, Bug, and Ice, and Solar Blade and Solar Beam to handle Ground. His weaknesses are still spread out enough that unless he can sacrifice at least one STAB move, he'd have to settle for just two coverage moves at most and that'd leave him vulnerable to specific types. Still, hopefully this new form and new power set will give him a much-needed boost in combat capability, especially with the power of the constellations by his side!

I don't know whether or not I'll do anything else with any more canon Pokémon for Sundo; I know I've said that I'm done with that business, but I've been wrong before lol. I've decided to adopt a "never say never" philosophy going forward, so who knows what I'll work on next? I'll try to keep modifications to a minimum, though, and focus on the future and any big missing worldbuilding stuff that still needs addressing (on top of all the other projects I've got as it is... eesh). But hey, you never know. Stay tuned for more artworks from me to come in any case, no matter what they may be!
