Mystery: why does the "More from DeviantArt" for this page feature multiple pictures of a Digimon called Renamon?Β What's the connection between this page and the Digimon?Β Except maybe that the Digimon has a face a little like the boss's puppy.

It's never innocent. It is always an inquiry as to why I'm not White and in America. You guys only bother the people who aren't White about where they're from.

i'm irish, and everyone at my american transfer school noticed my accent and asked where i was from
so
thats not true my dude
people asked me when i was in NY, texas and seattle.Β
'you guys'
everyone in the comments you're all guilty
or...something
also nobody uttered the word 'sorry' except the person who said they weren't sorry
i respectfully believe you're making an issue out of nothing at all ;v; meanwhile in zimbabwe those who are not black are denied housing and human rights. they're not asked 'where are you from?' politely like you are, they have much bigger issues as do israelis in middle eastern countries. they're not even ALLOWED in certain muslim countries.

Well, the answer would be obvious and boring in that case.
...it strikes me that your comic doesn't really agree with your own comment.Β Customer 1 isn't asking what business the dog has to be there.

Oh, this is a very sad interpretation of people's genuine interest in you.Β You're not a dog but you're interesting.

It's not an interpretation. It happened.

Well, the last panel is an interpretation of what happened.

To be fair, my girlfriend is Vietnamese and I get the exact same treatment when we go out with her relatives. I get treated like a little kid by the servers at the dim sum place we go to where I'm the only white person out of 100+ people.

I'm of mixed lineage but look typical European white, and I live in Japan with a Japanese man as a husband, etc etc. I get asked pretty regularly where I'm from and most conversations are about me. It's a thing that happens absolutely everywhere to anyone not the majority, and it used to bother me (though not to the extent in this comic) until I was watching a TV show in Japan where a half-Japanese, half-non Asian woman wrote in to the show to say she was tired of people always asking her where she is from. The hosts (both full Japanese) of the show then said "Wow, she's really lucky. She's mad, but she's lucky, because when we go to parties it's so hard for us to make conversation with people, but right away people can start with questions about her parents or background because of how she looks." I didn't know how I felt about it when I heard their response, but a few years later when I was with my husband's relatives, I realized they wanted to talk to me and just didn't know what to say, but they knew I was American and knew they could ask me "Hey, do you use chopsticks in America, too?"
It gets a little old, yeah, but it's better than them ignoring me. I'd rather they just spoke to me like a normal person, but I'll probably always be spoken to like a child as you experienced, or always be asked if I can use chopsticks, etc etc.Β

i-i think they're just making small talk with you to be polite and break the silence ;v;/////
this has happened to me when i did transfer school, every day! and like with dogs, it's a topic to discuss for polite small talk and get to know you better!! i find it very nice that they're interested and brave enough to initiate conversation with me. p-please dont feel contempt for these people ;v; because the only other...option is to...sit in awkward silence QvQ

um...maybe they're just curious? its not just them thinking "Ohhhh a new doggy!" It's more along the lines of "I have never met this person, let me ask where they are from and strike up a conversation like a normal human." There's no need to make this a pity party dude. and no, im not sorry. not in the slightest

I get this too....only slightly different....and I'm FROM the USA....born and raised. ^_^ Instead of asking when I came here they ask if I know any Korean. Β Though I think it's quite funny and don't mind too much.Β

Β I see this all the time with my non-white friends too, even though their family had been American citizens in the USA for over 100 years. Kind of sad how in the USA it's just assumed that being white is the default or some crap like that.
