Welcome to the Santa Cruz Ducky Derby: an annual race of hundreds if not thousands of plastic ducks, down a hill, to support local charities. I went out with friend Erin to document such an event, it was over before we knew it in a large rush of ducks, these being the stragglers in the race. It was fun watching all the kids get excited about the race. Yay for bath toys!Related content

I always wanted to enter one of these... they would do them in San clemente... I think they dropped the duckies off the end of the pier and the first one to shore was the winner... or something like that...

He was very jealous. We wanted to sneak him into the race, but they gathered up all the ducks at the end and carted them away to pick the "winner" - I don't think we'd have been able to get our duck back easily.
Besides, one black duck against millions of yellow ones? Not very ninja!

This is true. Since we're talking about ducks, you should see the devil ducky movie my friend's friend made a while back. It amuses me how the ducks set about killing Ryan.

*LOL!* Wow, I saw this pop up in my devwatch and was so amused by the title and what I could see from the thumb that I just HAD to come over and take a look. What a neat event! I wish I could watch....and cheer on the valiant plastic ducky that managed to beat all of the competition in raging waters of death. >D

Heroic duckies indeed! It's ...well, I've never seen anything like it. Better than Angel Camp's Annual Frog Race. It was...well, it was a very close photo finish.
