Description Ultraman is a supervillain that appears in stories published by DC Comics. He is the evil criminal counterpart of Superman. Ultraman first appeared in Justice League of America #29

Original Multiverse

Ultraman originally hailed from the parallel Earth called "Earth-Three", and was a member of the criminal organization the Crime Syndicate of America. Unlike Superman, Ultraman gets stronger every time he is exposed to kryptonite, often developing a completely new superpower each time. In one such encounter, Ultraman acquired the ability to see through dimensional barriers, thus alerting the Crime Syndicate to the existence of alternate Earths in their first appearance. This allowed the Syndicate to attack the Justice League and Justice Society. Ultraman also differed from Superman in that his version of Krypton hadn't exploded. Where the Kryptonite came from is unknown. In the early 1980s, Ultraman teamed up with Lex Luthor of Earth-One and Alexei Luthor of Earth-Two in an unsuccessful attempt to eliminate the Supermen of Earths-One and -Two (the Supermen were, in turn, assisted by the heroic Alexander Luthor of Earth-Three). Later, Ultraman joined the rest of the Crime Syndicate in a teamup with a time-traveling villain named Per Degaton in his attempt to conquer Earth-Two, but this proved unsuccessful as well, and the events were wiped from the timeline afterwards. The original Ultraman was eliminated in the 1985 12-issue limited series Crisis on Infinite Earths. Distraught at the fact that his superpowers were useless at the one time he actually needed them, he flew straight into the anti-matter cloud that was destroying Earth-3, telling Power Ring " What have I done all my life. Fight... !"

Antimatter Earth

In 1998, Ultraman was reintroduced in the story arc JLA: Earth 2. The Crime Syndicate is revealed for the first time to the Justice League by Alexander Luthor, the heroic antimatter counterpart to Lex Luthor. In this current continuity the CSA comes from the Antimatter Universe, each member being the antimatter counterpart to a core League member. Ultraman was fully rewritten for modern continuity as Lieutenant Clark Kent, a human astronaut from the antimatter Earth. After a fiery space shuttle crash, an unknown alien race (possibly Kryptonians) reconstructed Kent in an attempt to repair the damaged astronaut, which ended up altering the human both mentally and physically, giving him ultrapowers similar to Superman's superpowers. According to Alexander Luthor, the process also twisted Ultraman's mind. In contrast to Superman, Ultraman's power relies on his proximity and exposure to a substance called Anti-Kryptonite; the longer and farther he is separated from it the weaker he becomes. This substance has no apparent effect on Superman.

CubeTron23: I hate how DC copies the name of the giant. The giant from the Tokukatsu series, that is!

Me: If you had done any research, you'll know that the Ultraman above you had made his debut in 1964 while the latter debuted in 1966. This means that the character had the name Ultraman long before Eiji's char did by a year and a half if not by two years.

G-Seed2010: Why I type "Ultraman" in the Deviant Search leaded me to this?

I was looking at the Tokusatsu Hero, not the DC Villain.

is this DC Super-villain has something to do with the Japanese Tokusatsu Superhero due its name?

AuraShaman:Β The Superman version of Ultraman??

Me: DC's Ultraman appeared in 1964. Tokusatsu's Ultraman (The Original Ultraman) appeared in 1966. So, no, both of those Ultramen don't have anything to do with each other besides coincidentally having the same name.

You know what would be awesome? If he got the power to grow for an issue. If he appears again anyways.

Love the Crime Syndicate. You kinda forgot to mention that due to the reliance on kryptonite, Ultraman had it on his suit (which I assume is what those little capsules on him are).

Ah, the evil Ultraman. And he looks great! (Well, dangerous and untrustworthy and basically evil, but you know what I mean.) Are you going to tackle all the major characters in "JLA: Earth 2"? Or, even better, the major characters from the animated film "Justice League - Crisis on Two Earths"? I'd love to see your version of the heroic Alexander Luthor from the movie! (Also, I'd greatly appreciate it if you could tell me where to find Ultraman of Earth-Three, Lex Luthor of Earth-One and Alexei Luthor of Earth-Two locked in combat with Alexander Luthor of Earth-Three and the Supermen of Earths-One and -Two. Is there a trade paperback or hardback or anything of the sort? *crosses fingers*)

Crisis on Two Earths had awful voice acting, awful music, & juvenille fanboy service writing. It was a stupid & overly-predictable movie. Thank god I saw it on the internet.

It's unlike JLA: Earth 2 that was brillaintly done by Grant Morrison & Frank Quitely.

It's unlike this awesomely well-done art design made by 'Ultraman' himself.

We need more usage of mirror universes. It's cool seeing what our favourite heroes and villians would be like if their morality was reversed, ESPECIALLY when they share more characteristics in common than powers.
