Description After 'whining' quite frequently on my journals about my work for the Terra Firma Artbook , ultimately I can show some finished result now! Out for the seven pieces I planned for the artbook, there are two pieces for each of Croatia, Russia and Serbia. Both of the Russia's pieces are also done now and I'll upload one of them as an example later this month.

So let's see here...In December I made an experiment drawing of this pic here -  Now for the finished piece...this piece centered on a few cultural symbols of Slavonia - the region in the east of Croatia. Because I first study history of Slavonia since I have Osijek OC, I have to say I'm most familiar with this region than any other regions within Croatia. Geographical wise, Slavonia is very 'green' - meaning it has probably the highest percentage of agriculture area in Croatia(roughly 45% of the entire country according to wikipedia) since most of the area are plain and border by two major rivers(Drava on the north and Sava on the south, both later empty into the Danube).

Folk costumes in Slavonia are typically known for having marvelous amount of laces and embroidery. The girl's costume you see here is from a small town called 'Bizovac' about 18 kilometers west of Osijek(the biggest city in Slavonia and 4th largest in Croatia), which is quite unique and stand out among all folk costumes in Slavonia. And putting on this costume is no walk in the park - you can see how much time-consuming it could be with many pieces and layers to go through in this video on Youtube .

In comparison, Osijek's costume here is rather 'standard'; most costumes for men into Slavonia are basically like this - white shirts with ruffle/lace/embroidery in the middle of chest area then put a dark vest over. However, if you wish to see some really extraordinary Slavonian folk costume for guys, I recommend the men costumes of Baranja . They have enough embroidery and laces to put some women costumes to shame, plus that lace-trimmed apron is an absolute win. What Osijek holds in his hand is a tambura but most part of it is hidden by his body.

The stained-glass window in the background is taken inspiration from a couple of important churches of Slavonia; Osijek's St.Peter and Paul church and Đakovo's Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Paul. Instead of making the pattern something related to religion, I chose to make the pattern of Slavonia's coat of arms. And the pair of martens in the front are included because pine martens is featured in the coat of arms as well.

Osijek and Bizovac OCs belong to me

Jealous of the details .

Thank you If I have not decided to test drawing this costume before working on this pic, it sure would give me a lot of troubles. x_x

Hvala <3

How did I survive? ...By forcing myself to decide which piece I'd deal with first; this one or another Serbia's piece which I stuffed five characters in it. XD //shot (that pic with five Serbian OCs will be uploaded in the page as soon as I can figure out how to make a 'passable' background. ) //finds dealing with five characters at once even easier than drawing a background

It's true that Bizovac's costume is very detailed but for me, those dots patterns are a lot easier to deal with than having to draw floral patterns. :'D //enemy of all flowers(?)
