Do you mind telling me what clay/material she's made of?

I really love seeing the sculpture at this stage. I'm always learning and I never do layers. I just go for the finished look and I think it makes it more difficult to achieve fluid poses.
I was browsing searching for the males you mentioned and I saw the frame and I really like it!

The laser cutters work from vector files, like Illustrator or CAD.... you can still do your desisns in bitmap, like photoshop or even sketching, just scan them in and use the trace function in Illustrator to convert to vector. It takes some cleaning up but it's not too hard. I use laser cutting and acid cutting quite a bit, i'd be happy to help with your files or answer any questions you have about the process. All the detailed etching and cutting on my books were done with vector files. best of luck! Tim

Well, I don't know anything about Vectors or laser cutting so I am no help there but, I like where you are heading with this girl. I am assuming that she will have some coloring to bring up your details and perhaps some scrawny arms in a tweeked out position to add to her creepyness (which is a good thing in my world).
I'm looking forward to seeing the finished piece.

I REALLY like this piece. I can relate to it on a number of levels, having a 'broken' body, feeling imcomplete, maybe a little scared, not having control. . .
I REALLY like this piece! Very GOOD work.
LOL! I thought I was the only one struggling with Sir 'Fuzz' and Mr. 'Lint'!

oohh I like this a lot vector graphic format is just what is done in illustrator (sdobe) It is scalable without increasing the size of the file or reducing either its always the same file size.. if you can make it yourself im sure it would save you money.
where did you get ti done I have some ideas Id like to have done that would be greatly simplified in a laser cut out

Sleetwealth In reply to gaffanon [2009-05-20 12:42:51 +0000 UTC]
Ah thanks.
I drew out my design. But the lazer cutters themselves arnt cheap! I chose an ebay seller that already had lazer cut craft shapes for sale and said they did customs. I dont recall the names right off ,but I contacted two sellers.
The other shapes they had available are only a couple bucks even the very ornate ones! Theres the typical ugly holiday ones, animals adn crosses with curlicues.
It would be very useful though to cut shapes and make 3d objects with it Paint and sculpt on them.

Ive had this idea for a while of doing a clockwork puppet and I havent been able to find the right sizes of gears and stuff

Sleetwealth In reply to gaffanon [2009-05-20 13:07:46 +0000 UTC]
Oh neat. There are some watches with tiny gears. You might find some on ebay or etsy searching under "steampunk" and watch parts. If you go for ladies watches they should be smaller. I thought of the same issue. I wanted to make Olympia the ballerina doll from Tales of Hoffman. But , I have more ideas that time or money!

gaffanon In reply to Sleetwealth [2009-05-20 13:19:03 +0000 UTC]
thats just it those are to small thats why i tuohgt if i could get them laser cut bigger than that the puppet would be about 18 inches tall standing so I need them in a larger size, I am the same way i come up with ideas all the time but have little time and money to execute them especially latley

Sleetwealth In reply to gaffanon [2009-05-20 13:48:15 +0000 UTC]
Im sure you could get them done larger from some company. You may have to show around.
Is it a theater you want to make? If so it wouldnt have to be wood.
yeah and it seems the most creative are bottlenecked with the least means!

Yes, vector file work-up. I have a friend whose system will take an .AI file and directly convert it to G-code for his machine.
What's the deal with laser cut? How's it any better than high precision CNC machining?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Sleetwealth In reply to toasterkat [2009-05-24 06:33:29 +0000 UTC]
I have a freind wiling to vector out my drawings for me and that will lower the price of having them cut by a company.
Im not sure there is a differnce between a layer cutter and a scroll saw type thing. If thats the same as CNC machining I dont know. Possibly smaller designs are possible?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
toasterkat In reply to Sleetwealth [2009-05-28 07:48:56 +0000 UTC]
CNC machining uses a variety of bits (chosen for detail level and material) in conjunction with 2,3 or 4 axes of movement to cut out 2 or 3 dimensional objects. The machines typically use stepper or servo motors to potentially achieve an inanely high degree of precision.
If the vector file can be done in 3 views (top, side, front or just 1 for 2-D) software can translate that into 3-D for the machine to cut out.

Thanks for the info. I havent looked into doing this.scared of how much it would cast but it seems doable. Id really like to have some complex theater, shrine type shadow boxes to frame my sculptures. For this one I kept it very simple, but it really helps the impact of the peice.

The only bummer about etsy is its whomever get there first! its good in some ways and in other ways kind of annoying.
Ill probably transition to making these all year cause its stressless and I can still make almost as much as on a full figure that has teensy fingers and toes that makes me curse alot.

hmm I can't hear the name Etsy anymore grrrr
I'm in war with them because the won't let me open a sellers account without a credit or debitcard.
I offered all kind of other identifications but no I must have a cc or dc.
I don't want a cc and I can't get a dc (not even a pre paid dc) as a citizen of the Netherlands and believe me I
They allow me to pay my bills through Paypal but don't accept my verified paypal account as verification grrrrrr.
Your busts are so gorgeous you can make good money with them.
so you also curse while sculpting hihihi
Rene always say: why do you keep going on when it is that stressing to do(because of the cursing), it's suppose to be fun.
He doesn't understand
