I dont think it really reflects his style now. I will probably make more figures in suits like this though.

Your sculpts are so lush and visceral. The detailing on the upper torso is interesting, like a martyr icon, and of course the mouth is superb. Curious to see the progress, especially with the head.

Spines are always a winner! So do you work out your design in the sculpt rather than render it from sketches? I have been approaching the stuff in my gallery that way; at best I'll have a rough thumbnail and a concept in my head. It's a refreshing break from having control art and tight designs like in my regular work.

I just sculpt freehand, no previous plans.

I've never worked in your material. Everything I do is for molding and casting (except my quirky assemblages) so I sculpt in wax and clay.

I am just starting to work in castilene for prototypes. I like it but dont really have resources or patience for casting.

In a previous life I worked in soft clay on large pieces, and when I got into action figures and collectibles I had to learn to sculpt in castilene. I like it because it acts like both clay and wax. They changed the formula a few times over the years, and I use a special blend of it with additives to make it harder. I empathize about mold work, I can't stand it..

yeah me too and I like building up a hollow form fast. Polymer is so droopy easy to ruin details youve done and a dirt magnet.
I have someone molding and casting my doll now ,but its so expensive!

Yes, it can be. If you don't mind sharing, would you send me a note or email with the specs of your doll and the price? Never hurts to have comparisons/options...

Well yeah. I wanted to try to get a bust cast since I think it would be cheaper than a full figure. But since I live hand to mouth its hard to get anything done

I understand. I have been using a moldmaker halfway across the country because his prices were better than local dudes. My partner has been casting the Dellamorte stuff to keep our costs down. I figured maybe I could help you find a better deal. Worth a shot.. I admire your work a lot, so if I could help, I felt it didn't hurt to ask.

My pleasure. If anything comes up in the future, drop me a line.
My 2 cents, offhand- I'm leery of the 50% deal, and changing your work... makes little sense to me. Clearly mainstream stuff is more marketable(if that's what she meant), but then you are lost in the dross and turning from one of your big strengths- the solid style and design sense you've developed. On molds- at a glance, your work doesn't seem too nutty. I've sculpted stuff with horrid undercuts, etc. and it's all been moldable. That said, the more castings you pull from a mold, the more wear on the rubber. That's in part why I revised my bishop piece. You can't tell in the pic of the new version, but I made changes that were mold-friendly.

well its the only way I could get this done.my other option is a preorder where Id use monies payed me up front after pictures of a model to pay a caster, but that is risky. It goes south and I owe people big!
I agree and this is what Im dealing with right now. I thought I could juggle both worlds but, now I feel torn about it.That what will really happen is one will happen the other will die off.

Ok, for a critique, I think you need to add more detail on the eye lids, they also look a little bulgy. However, this entire piece is very amazing! I would almost like to see the forehead and cheeks have more detail, like the dresss does (I assume its a dress). This is truly a very cool work of art. You always have such beautiful color and detail on so many of your pieces. :]

Yes I know Giger's work he influenced me very early actually. Micheal Henricot too. Um but those have a natural baby/doll look. I want to keep and otherworldly look, but I did cut down the bulge of the eyes and forehead today.
This is not plaster but, entirely polymer clay. Like Sculpy. I have kind of a melting whipped cream look going on the chest plate so, I can carry drips from the face area too.
Thank you me too.

Oh, sorry. It looked like plaster. I love Sculpy, made an anatomical figure for class out of it. Love it to death. :]
May I suggest metal eye lids of a sort? It would keep the bulginess (I wasn't sure if it was intended to be like that, but now that you say it is suppose to be, I grow more fond), while adding a definite uniqueness to the piece.
