Description A nice view after crossing a half frozen stream via a foot bridge at Campsite 18 along West Prong Trail in the Tremont district of GSMNP is seen by Ranger Travis during a mid winter hike in 2018. The brook is half frozen over, but the sound of rushing waters is everywhere to be heard.

Always amazing to me how much green prevails even after the many hard freezes of winter.....  Great pictorial hike through the mountains, and thanks for it!  Can Spring be far off?

The Smokies are temperate, and in some places, almost tropical down low. It is always green here. Even when snow covers everything, that which sticks out is still green. As for Spring, it begins in about three weeks as the ephemeral flowers growing on the forest floor make their grand appearance during the awakening of the ferns.
