Beautiful. And so incredible to think of a building standing for that long.

Thank you for commenting and yes it is incredible that a building can stand for so long, especially in our English climate!

That'd be wet, wet and damp? I spent my first 15 years in Buckinghamshire. All I can say is that I love Australia, but it sure doesn't have any historic buildings

Followed by more wet! You've got the idea! Actually the sun has been known to shine on occasions! You're right though we do have history.

I heard about your last summer and hope you actually get one this year No point you stealing our sun if it's not going to shine on you!
I'm just sorry I didn't see more of the UK when I lived there but maybe one day I'll get back and do the grand tour!

Yes, the non existent summer followed by a really long extra cold winter! We are pretty fed up. Must be due some decent weather soon.
Yes you must get back and see more of the UK: if the weather's right it's a great place to be.

When I get to the UK I hope to arrive around May - in time for May Day perhaps - and be out of there by late August I think But there's so much I want to see and in the nature area I can't see it all - catkins, bluebells, conkers, acorns, silver birch and beech trees, cuckoos, badgers, hedgehogs, squirrels, woodpeckers... I miss them all so much! I only spent 4 years living in the countryside, but it will remain with me forever

Sounds like a great plan and if you could extend it by a couple of months either side you might get to see snow as well!! Enjoy planning!

Snow? Eeeeeek! I'm happy to look at that on Christmas cards thanks My children and my daughter-in-law have never seen snow in their lives. They're all early 30s. I remember wearing my dad's socks on the outside of my wellies so that I wouldn't slip on the ice as I did my paper round. A lifetime ago!

Aah those long ago days when it was fun to fall over in the snow but now.....!! Now it's a nightmare: the likelihood of ending up in A&E or on the osteopath's table take the fun out of it! Lovely to look at though from the safety and comfort of a lounge, complete with roaring log fire!

I fully agree. Children just bounce right up again don't they? I don't feel old until thoughts (or actuality) of falling over and then I feel ancient

Oh they do! As for feeling ancient ... our eldest son has just made us feel very old by referring to his 20 something neighbour as a youngster!!

Oh dear! I remember my Mother-in-Law writing in my husband's birthday card (18 years ago) 'How dare you be 40!' Our eldest is 33 so we're approaching that time ourselves already. But I would never write what she did

Our eldest is also 33 but my mother in law never mentions our ages. She did send me a bouquet when I hit 50 but that's about it. Perhaps I should be grateful that she now seems to forget our birthdays completely!!
