Description This is a pic of just the necklace that sits inside the Reliquary for Her Lost Child. As I said in the description in the other pic, the vial contains real blood in the picture but no longer does in reality because I can't exhibit it with real blood in it. (Bummer, that). The cap is chased & repoused sterling silver & the chain is a loop-in-loop in fine silver, done by hand. The pendant sits in a depression in the mattress, which the blanket then goes over, the chain goes in the space underneath the mattress.

The idea of putting the baby face on the vial is as a sort of "death mask".

What is the reasoning behind the prohibition of exhibiting with blood in the containter? It can't be a health hazard if it is well contained, I think, and I seem to recall having seen some artwork created with not only the artist's blood, but also fecal and seminal matter, on canvas. It was displayed in plexiglass. I didn't especially like it, but I can't see how that is permissible and yours isn't!

I have not looked at the container yet, this piece is lovely.

What I was told is that it'd be classified as a biohazard- possibly because the blood was still liquid & glass is breakable?

Given that I got sick when I changed it, they might be right.

Hm, who knows. I like the idea, though. It's one of those that will give many people pause, for whatever consideration they are having, to think, be it a "hmm," or an "eeww." It reminds me of an art installation at last year's Seattle Erotic Arts Festival, wherein a woman was dressed as a housewife and was serving toast for breakfast. She had a little dining room area, think any 50's sitcom, plus the very motherly act. The table had on it a placard which read "this bread is prohibited from consumption by the Seattle Board of Health," which I found curious...until I read the display card on the wall, you know, the one that has all media listed? The bread was made with a tiny bit of vaginal yeast. It was delicious.

This is really inspiring!

I love the design and I love the idea, well done, well put together.

How long have you been working with silver?

I would use it as an aromatherapy vial, you should really consider making
more to sell if you enjoyed making this one. May I suggest a similar one
but make the face old man winter, blowing cold air downward...(and put wintermint or spearmint oil into it!!) Geez wish I had the money to do silver work like u *envious*

cheers to you! Tara

Four years now. I love it!

Aromatherapy vials might be a cool idea- although I don't have much use for them myself. I have no sense of smell. :-P

It's not a question of having the money- I'm in school training to be a silversmith. In theory, this is my job. :-D

Oh I forgot to tell you that I like the business of one bit of metalwork designed to be the container for another.

Thanks. Kind of crazy-making having to make sure everything would fit but worth it.

One of my lovers came home today and said "you have to look at what smithing-chick posted on da!" I said that I thought she might have been surfing the net in class while she was suposed to be listening to the professor.

Cheers.

Teehee. Students would *never* search the web instead of paying attention to class.

That's awesome. It's not too often I'll randomly see something on the front page that really gets my interest, but this is way cool. Just sorry I can't offer more detailed critique.

That's OK. I appreciate your comments. Praise is always good for the artist's ego.
