You have no idea what socialism is, do you? It's the exact OPPOSITE of oppressing everybody. And is very different from Communism.

Well not willingly.  Judging by how some states split in half it was probably like the civil war where the non-communist half of states split from the communist ones, like how non-Confederate states split from Confederate ones such as North and South Carolina.     But it seems they were eventually all conquered.

Also, where is the 'Mormon SSR'?

ThePlainsman In reply to Warsie [2017-02-20 00:33:57 +0000 UTC]

Well, there is a Mormon SR. It's called Utah.

Warsie In reply to ThePlainsman [2017-05-29 06:56:10 +0000 UTC]

Utah as an SR isnt the same as a Mormon ethnic SR. If it's Mormon chances are they revert to "Deseret"

ThePlainsman In reply to Warsie [2017-05-29 13:32:05 +0000 UTC]

I don't want to start an argument here, but we Mormons are as much of an ethnic group as Catholics are. Were not. Just because Mormons are living there, doesn't mean it has to be called Deseret. Again, I'm not mad or anything, just saying.

The mormons' differences were radicalized in 1800s, and even now scholars classify Utah Mormons as an ethnio eligious group like Jews and Alawites

ThePlainsman In reply to Warsie [2017-05-29 22:28:56 +0000 UTC]

Okay then, but, if you ask a Mormon what there ethnicity is - most likely - they're not going to say Mormon.

I agree with docmagnus about New Endland to an extend. Like with the Soviet Union some of the smallest oblasts not meant for some non-Slavic group were highly populated cities and industrial centers. Yu could also probably evict the entire population of some Western States and have the land as a territory, if you ever went that route.

The mini-US is kind of cute...
Also, whyever would the New England states be administered as one big SR? Wouldn't it make more sense to make it some kind of "autonomous federated socialist republic" or somesuch with the individual (pre-revolutionary) states as provinces? I only bring this up in the name of consistency, for you've broken the most of the bigger states (Texas, California) into smaller SRs, and New England has been individual states for time out of mind. Still, good map.

Snackserv In reply to docmagnus [2012-05-31 14:56:26 +0000 UTC]

That's a good point that New England might be a sort of mini-federation unto itself. I merged New England (As well as merging Delaware and Maryland) and split California, New York, and Texas with the idea that the AFSR would try to create SRs more equal in size and perhaps more conforming with cultural boundaries. Given that though, I don't recall why I did not merge some of the western states.

It is a bit odd that there's all this change in the east (Virginia back to pre-ACW borders! New England one big-ass SR! Louisiana balkanized! Delaware and Maryland also a single SR!) yet the west--barring California and Texas--is virtually identical to OTL.
