Description The next in my geographic series! ^_^ This time it's Swamp! She was one of the ones that I thought would be really tough to get right when I first thought of her, but I'm really happy with what I was able to do with her.

I know it's been a long time since I did the last one of these, and it was around the beginning of December that I started thinking I needed to work on the next one. A few days after I started debating which one to do next, my Science Education class took a field trip to a local park, and we walked over to the swamp area there. I decided while we were looking at the trees and stuff that I had to do swamp next, and in my notes from the trip are a couple quick little sketches of the way the trees looked and a little spit of land in the middle of the water (which is why that purple bit of land is there in the picture).

One of the most fascinating things to me about art is the way that you can discover things that you didn't even know you could do. I decided that I wanted her face halfway below the water, with her hair all floating on top of it. But when I sat down to do the initial sketch I had no clue how to draw hair floating on water like that. So, I played with it and one little line I happened to make showed me exactly how to do it!

I drew the lineart right around Christmas, and have been coloring it in little bits and pieces ever since. I was stymied for a long time because I was trying to figure out how to color the water- there's so much of it that it really sets the tone for the whole picture, you know? I couldn't color it the wrong color or it would ruin the whole thing. So it took me a while to get that fear of ruining it out of my system and just sit down and finish it.

My favorite elements about this one are her hair, and the way her dress looks under the water, and the bit of land in the background- I was afraid the purple would look weird there, but I don't think it does, and I love the effect it has on the overall look. Tell me what you guys like or dislike about it!

I promise more are coming soon! I WILL finish all 12!

^_^ Thank you! It was fun getting the colors just right, here.

And I'm so glad you like the background! It was really tough to do, but I'm happy with how it came out.

Thanks so much for the fave on this!! I really appreciate it!

Oh, she looks like she's either emerging from the water or submurging into it
It's got an eerie feel to it

I like to think she's just gliding along, half submerged... Surveying her territory, as it were...

I think swamps tend to have that slightly creepy feel to them. I'm glad that the same feel comes out here!

brilliant work on this like how u did the background and the coloring and how u made the hair float on top like that. she kinda reminds me of the Spring Sprite from Fantasia 2000

Thank you! The background was very fun to do, as was the hair.

I had the same thought about halfway through this pic! She really does look like the Sprite, doesn't she? I didn't mean to do that, but the Firebird Suite is my favorite segment in Fantasia 2000, so I'm not going to complain or change the pic at all. ^_~

Thanks for the fave!

Oooo, it's so pretty. I think the hair did turn out really well. She looks so peaceful too; it kinda makes me want to go jump in a swamp and just float. ^_^

By the way, I am going to ask for a commission, I just have to figure out what to ask for first!

Thanks! I'm glad you like the hair! ^_^ Yeah, I'm trying to make all of these girls for my series look pretty peaceful, for the most part. That's why all their eyes are closed. *laughs* Floating in a swamp does seem kind of fun- maybe we'll try it sometime! ^_~

Aw, yay! It'll be tons of fun drawing a picture for you!

^_^ Thanks! I'm really glad it looks like it's floating on the top of the water! I knew that was what I wanted to do, but I couldn't figure out how to do that quite as well as I wanted to, for a while. I'm glad you think it came out well!

^_^ Thanks! The hair was a blast to draw, I'm really glad I figured out how to do what I wanted to do!

I'm so glad you like the background! I was really nervous when I started, cause I didn't know if I could make it look like a swamp specifically, but I think I managed pretty well. I really appreciate the comment, and the fave!

I'm glad ^__^ Yes, I am jealous of your background drawing skillz!~ I still need A LOT of work on background detail. Its hard, and I find people who can do it very impressive!

^_^ Aw, thanks! It's just practice, practice, practice. I still need a lot of work, but I feel like I'm improving with every pic, you know?

Someday people will totally be jealous of your background skills, too!

^_^ I like seeing the stages of my art, too- it's always interesting to get the idea in my head and see how close to the idea I can get it- or even if I can improve on the original conception for it!

The fun thing about having my own scanner now is that I'll be able to upload lineart for my drawings now, so that you guys can see the progression more my work. I'm so excited to have this thing!

You must've taken so much time to do this : all those details, and everything with pencils! I wouldn't be patient enough to use pencils XD Great job!

It took a good bit of time, but I'm totally willing to spend a lot of time on this series I'm doing. The details are the most fun part of them (at least, drawing them- coloring them sometimes takes a lot of time), and it's so much of the picture that it's totally worth being patient with.

I'm so glad you like it!

Creepy swamp... lady in the water... Yeah, I think took the wrong turn. A lady in water is never good news, especially in a swamp.

^_^ She's like, the swamp as a person- I think that she would be nice to anyone who stumbled across her. I like to think that all the people in my geographic series would be pretty nice. (Except Volcano. She's probably pretty cranky and sarcastic.)
