John is a quiet and reserved stallion, with a great work ethic and a fantastic ability to care way too much. He's prone to being despondently upset for long periods and having particularly daft tantrums, but always comes round quickly. This is rarely a hindrance to his sweet and charming personality; no one truly dislikes John. This is very well grounded, as his exceptional courage is a great thing to have on your side. But don't get him angry or he'll seriously go to town.

His best friend is Sherlock, and their awkwardly sweet relationship is one of the most fun to watch on the entire yard. They have mini arguments a lot over very silly things, but are fundamentally lost without each other, even when Sherlock wanders off and John insists on shadowing his every move. It's only his ability to get on with nearly everyone he meets that stops Sherlock from being alone 24/7. He is very fond of Hamish, and seems to have nudged Sherlock into some kind of reluctant parenthood.

Under saddle, John is a perfect push-button and a reliable steed. Anything asked of him will be done to the best of his ability; unless what you're asking of him will put you in danger, he looks after his handler. He is the most loved out of all our lesson ponies, and works well with even the younger children.
