Description The ride never ends!

1.) Cloudkicker. I was gonna try and draw his infamous gun Doomshot but figured there's no way I'd be able to do it justice. Maybe one of these days.

2.) Marty! I really did enjoy her character... it dawned on me after that fact that her and Kit (in the next picture) have similar poses (and equally deformed hands) -- ironic.

3.) I'm actually kind of proud of this one and plan to color it tonight before I lose the motivation to do so. This one is not related to "No Time" but I think it unintentionally looks like a sequel to this: www.deviantart.com/socksthemut… so I'm gonna color it in the same sketchy digital style. Actually, in my head "Scheming", where Kit looks a little apprehensive, is a pre-Talespin picture. While this one, which I haven't come up with a title for yet, is post-"Once a Pirate". Kit is giving his captain a thumbs up -- probably in thanks for those pants. Seriously, give that kid some pants. XD

4.) This is the other sketch I did in relation to "No one ever cared..." which you can see here: www.deviantart.com/socksthemut… The poses here were more difficult and I wasn't as happy with it (stupid legs) but I miiight still do something more with it. I did enjoy the expressions, as per usual. Again, Kit looks faded because he's not really there. This is a scene from the fan fiction "No Time for a Hero" and if you've read the story then you'll know this part takes place just a bit after the aforementioned sketch.

I have more sketches I was gonna put on this page but I figured it might be too much. Just as well since part of my next batch is more or less a comic/storyboard...thing.

Oh! I was listening to a song called "Halfway to Hell" last night: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCW3TY… which kinda made me think of "No Time for a Hero" in general. I really like these lyrics:

"Sinking deeper into war, singing "freedom" as we fall.
Time to make a call, we're on our knees.
Once the truth is bent, we'll start our descent.
An inch a time for every lie.
Before we know it we can barely see..."

Music always helps inspire my sketches in one way or another.

1. Cloudkicker just can't help but to look badass.  Doomshot was complex enough that it's even difficult for me to put a complete image of it in my head.

2.  I almost didn't recolonize Marty without her chewing.   Which leads to a tangent thought that I hadn't considered, how frustrating was it for Karny to keep bubblegum in stock to keep the brat happy?  But maybe that was easier than fielding "can I fly now" questions everyday from the other brat.

3.  The third panel, that's already one of my all time faves.  I love how happy the captain looks to have his boy back.  And not in a gloating or devilish way, either, just really happy.  It's also timely for me, because I've been noting down some narrative for a potential OaP sequel where he's contemplating on how different he feels then vs. now, and how the turning point in knowing what he really wanted in his life was liking the feeling of Kit's loving, affectionate hug in this part: www.deviantart.com/socksthemut…

Kit is also exceptionally well drawn.  "I guess I am pretty great to have around, huh?"

4.  I'm glad you shared this!  Especially side by side with that third pic, its such a heartfelt contrast for Karny of what could've been.

That song was practically line by line a perfect theme for No Time.  I know its a coincidence, but whoa.  It's such a match for Cloudkicker, delving to the point of no return down a path he never wanted but continuously rationalized.  Some musical inspiration for the story I had included the Heavy's Short Change Hero (which inspired the title) and Tom Petty's When a Kid Goes Bad.

Thank you! The constant chewing and poppin' might be less annoying... until someone steps in a wad of ABC gum. I just loved Marty's attitude and personality. Earlier on in the story part of me thought she might end up staying with Don Karnage and Maria... but then again I also had an overwhelming feeling in my gut about who had to be the one to fix things. I loved that it was Marty's words -- and that feeling of being cared about -- that convinced Karnage to do the right thing. Didn't think I'd get quite so invested in OCs but, well, applause on good character creation!

The third one was my absolute favorite to draw and I'm actually eager to color it too. That feels weird since I've been in a crazy pencil sketching mode lately. After so many sad sketches I just needed some happy K&K. Ooh, that scene in OaP stil gets to me -- and the broken reflection scene that followed where Karnage realizes what he truly lost. It's such a powerful moment, no matter how many times I read it. Post-OaP sketches are almost more fun than pre-TS sketches because K&K have a better understanding in them and I often find myself wondering what adventures await them next.

Oh, wow, I can see why "Short Change Hero" inspired the title (I could easily see it as the story's theme song too) and "When a Kid Goes Bad" is perfect for Cloudkicker. Definitely adding those to my playlist!

The one caveat with pre-P&L K&K is that we know ultimately how it ends up, with Kit despising Karnage.  We know that in our imagining of things, there are boundaries that can't be crossed if we mean to stay in canon.  Any potential father and son feelings have to remain fragile at best, because we know they were severed.  The plus side is, Kit's younger and more naive, maybe more curious and anxious to please, and I overall imagine funnier situations where he's caught in the middle of sky pirate chaos (like in Mice and Morons).

But post-OaP, the sky, as they say, is the limit.  We can start getting a few hugs in there now and again.   They'd both be a bit wiser.  We can see Kit being part of Karnage's conscience, and Karny having growing pains adjusting to this unfamiliar feeling of caring for some brat and the burden of responsibility that entails.  This is how I would see the dynamic of their relationship if they had their own series.  And the best part in thinking of their adventures here is that it's "from now on," no impending expiration date.

It's fun to imagine what other shenanigans they got into pre-TS and, despite the canon limitations, I still think some of the best stories probably happened in that year before the show. "Of Mice and Morons" is still the funniest fan fiction I've ever read, btw. . But on the topic of their pre-TS relationship I thought it was expertly handled in "The Prince, the Pauper, and the Pirate" too. There were subtle things that hinted at what could-be but it never stepped out of that canon boundary. If we'd ever been given just a single episode about Kit's days as an air pirate (and oh how I wish we had) a story like that would've been perfect without affecting the events in P&L.

But yeah, after the events in OaP the door is wide open with so much more potential. Ah, and how cool if they were to get their own series... but that's why I love your stories so much. They're like the show we'll never get, animated in my head, and why I feel so inspired to try and translate parts of them visually.

Kit looks cool with those trousers!

I don't think you did an awful anatomy! You did a great job with it!

Thanks! I always thought it was hilarious that Baloo calls Kit "little britches" in the show when he has no pants. XD
