Description Hey everyone. This is SofiaBlythe2014. Here's another Some Thoughts On My Mind article for the DC Superhero Girls franchise.

2015 Series:

1. The Abandoned Movie Rewatch Plan (For Now)

You're probably wondering what I mean by this? Let me explain. With the announcement of a crossover movie between DC Superhero Girls 2019 and Teen Titans Go subtitled "Mayhem In The Multiverse", I wanted to look back at all the movies from the original 2015 DC Superhero Girls to see how I've grown as a reviewer. This includes both the Shea Fontana movies/specials from the main continuity and the Lego DC Superhero Girls movies written by Jeremy Adams. I've been rewatching each of them recently, and have some new thoughts about them that make me appreciate them more now. I was going to prepare for the movie by rewatching them during the week of December 20 and see how well they hold up, but I decided to move it to a currently unknown date.

The reason for this is because I plan to review the season 5 arc (which I will elaborate on below) as well as go back to Kid Cosmic during this week. I've fallen behind on the latter show due to being busy both reviewing other shows I'm currently looking at as well as causally watching some newer shows and movies to determine my favorites of 2021. Since Kid Cosmic season 2 is only 8 episodes, I figured I could watch the season then and put out a review or 2 much quicker than looking back on 5 movies and 1 special. Again, I still plan to rewatch the movies formally and then re-review them, but that's not happening this month.

2. Looking At The Season 5 Arc

Season 5 is definitely an interesting season. While I think season 4 is the best season, I think this season is still good. It's just better to look at the season in isolation rather than try to directly connect it to the first 4 seasons. This especially holds true since it's the only season to not have Shea Fontana involved (barring Fortress Of Solidarity being held over from season 4). Anyway, I plan to formally look back on the season 5 arc (which is about the arrival of Darkseid) and see how well everything comes together. Since the episodes range anywhere from 4-8 minutes (with the series finale being 11 minutes), and the arc is only a few episodes in the season, I figure I can rewatch this much more easily in tandem with Kid Cosmic. I've re-watched some season 5 episodes recently, and they're still entertaining. As for when it could come out, I'm aiming for a February 12 release, but that's not a guarantee. I figure now is as a good time as any to give at least one more hurrah for the show.

2019 Series:

1. Why Is The 2019 Series Not On HBO Max In The United States

So one thing that people have been wondering is why the 2019 is not HBO Max here in The United States yet. Why is that the 2015 DC Superhero Girls (at least the movies) are on HBO Max in America and her the 2019 series isn't? The answer is simple, and it involves Netflix. The show was added to Netflix starting in August 2019, where the show still stays to this day. Generally speaking, Netflix can have exclusive streaming rights for a cable television show for a set amount of years before they eventually expire even if a rival streaming service where the show would definitely go has started up in the meantime.

For example, there's Sofia The First. You'd think the show would be on Disney Plus already, and you'd be correct, but that's not the case though. Netflix got the full streaming rights for the show in the United States in 2018, which are most likely meant to expire in 2022 due to the show having 4 seasons, which translates to 4 years. Goldie And Bear was taken off Netflix in 2020, which was 2 years after the show was put up due to running for 2 seasons and ending in 2018. There could also be a case of Netflix having the streaming rights to specific seasons, but not all of them. A good example is My Little Pony Friendship Is Magic. In America, Seasons 1-8 and The Best Gift Ever are on Netflix, but season 9 and Rainbow Road Trip are on Hulu. For the show itself, only season 1 is currently on Netflix, while Latin America splits the difference, with season 1 being on Netflix and season 2 being on HBO Max.

My guess is that the show could be put up on HBO Max when Netflix loses the streaming rights, or it could be a case where HBO Max will get season 2, but season 1 will come only after Netflix loses the streaming rights. I remember when the movies based on the 2015 series were on Netflix for a bit in 2018, but were taken off in 2019.

2. The Movie Is Made By People From The 2019 Series

On October 16, it was announced that there would be a third crossover with Teen Titans Go in a movie subtitled "Mayhem In The Multiverse". Now one would think that there would be some fatigue in having yet another crossover, but this one is interesting. On the forums on the Teen Titans Go wiki, there's a message from TTGCREW (that's the name of the account) dated October 19 which says how this crossover is hosted by DC Superhero Girls 2019. The only real involvement from the people working on Teen Titans Go is just them approving the use of the designs. It does make me think this could go for a different feel. The other crossovers definitely leaned more into the comedic stylings of TTG (leaning into the absurd and self depreciative) due to being guest stars. The only real involvement from anyone in the DC Superhero Girls franchise was with Amy Wolfram writing "Superhero Feud" since she also wrote on season 5 of the 2015 series and wrote graphic novels for the 2019 show.

This actually reminds me of Teen Titans Go Vs Teen Titans. Despite leaning more into the stylings of TTG, and no one from the latter show working on this movie, no one currently working on the show at the time worked on the movie. There is the involvement of Marly Halpern Graser and Jeff Mednikow, who worked on Teen Titans Go for a bit, but they weren't working on the show while working on the movie. You can tell that this is mainly an independent project since it doesn't have the voice director for either series (with DC veteran Wes Gleason taking over), most of the other people working on the movie also worked on other DC projects (such as co-writer Jeremy Adams and storyboard artists Hayley Foster and Rachel Tamura having worked on both DC Superhero Girls 2015 and Lego DC Superhero Girls), and while Michael Jelenic and Aaron Horvath are credited, this is from a point where they were barley involved in the show before eventually handing over the reins. It's certainly going to be interesting.
