Description
I realized that I hadn't drawn any pictures of Hoshi by himself for quite some time. And since today is the birthday of the person he was modeled after, I wanted to do a new picture of him for the occasion.
I don't think I've ever really tried an underwater picture like this before, so that was fun to experiment with. I'm sure there are a million mistakes all over the place, but I'm pretty happy with the outcome, overall. I just hope he likes it. ^_^;

I think the overall atmosphere of the picture is really great, it feels like underwater. Very challenging, I'd be afraid to try to do a background like that.

I think that it's cool that you attempted to draw the caustics rippling on him. I can't say how many under water pictures I 've seen that don't have any. To me, that's one of the coolest things about underwater drawings.

For a first try, I think it looks pretty damn good. But then again, I think everything you do (or show for that reason) looks good. I wish I could see the full version picture of your icon too, btw.
But it looks like poor Hoshi is sinking in the water. o_o;; Or maybe he just dived in? I hope he had a good birthday though!!

He just jumped in the water or something. Hopefully he knows how to swim...
The picture in my icon is from my thesis animation. I'll post it someday, when I have enough web space to upload it. ^_^;; I really want to get it copyrighted before I post it publicly, but I might post it in my journal or something first.

There's hardly "a lot" of mistakes in this. In fact, I would say that there's extremely little wrong. Anatomy wise, there's nothing really worth nitpicking at all. Same with colouring and lighting work, so I'd say you're pretty much good to go.
I really love the lighting that you did from the upper parts of the water. The darkened, shadowy effect that you did to the right side of the picture almost looks like there's a boat above him, which would demonstrate a reason and way for him to be in the water. The texture you used on Hoshi to emulate that water-lighting look is just awesome, even goes well with the waves that you've made in the still capture around his arms. A very cool pic, Souldream.

The background came out fantastic, makes it look kinda paint-ish. I can't think of anything useful to say besides I love how it came out. It looked like you had fun with the whole underwater thing.

Oh, I wouldn't say a million mistakes. I don't see any. The pose is good, the anatomy is correct, and the underwater effects are great! Very successful and nice.
