Favorite part? This is the part that traumatized him, especially considering he'd ended up with candle wax in his face when he tried to blow them out, Auntie Yang made chocolate cake (bleaugh!) And almost all of his presents had something to do with either exercize equipment or huntsmanning, neither of which he is proficient or interested in.Β
And one needs to realize that this is the first time JJ's ever seen his mother like this:Β Seeing his affectionate, loving mother suddenly turn into this rampaging berserker scared the crap outta him, literally. Β For a moment he was more afraid of her than the Ursa.Β
Indeed, when Pyrrha ran up to him after the fight ( still holding her weapons) he actually screamed at her to stay away. Blake had to wave Pyrrha off while she tried to comfort him.

Ok then. From the Snatched by Dad's Dad comments. This is a similar AU to what you have written except a bunch of characters from other stuff formed to fight a evil that threatens all of existence intervene in the battle of beacon not least of which my warhammer 40k OC Emilion Trioch who with his power is more than a match for cinder who holds her off allowing my friend TheCrossover89's OC to rush Pyrrha to medics. Bartle and Pof are also extracted though in bad shape.
-----
Emilion Trioch,Cheif Librarian and a Grandmaster of the grey knights chapter of space marines of the imperium of man looked around the room at all the shocked people. Pyrrha seemed like she would break down under her fathers berating and Blake and Weiss and Yang and Ruby were all shocked and Jaune was on his way to the police station to confront his old man. Trioch coughed, his suit speakers rendering static that got everyone's attention. With a hiss of seals he removed his helm.Β
"Both parties are at fault here, I'll speak on the issue of Mr Nikos first, father of Pyrrha and the one who has caused the rawest grief. She loves him Mr Nikos, more than you can know, I with my gifts can fathom it. All she does she sees as being for Jaune Jrs benifit and she devotes herself to it. To assume otherwise is ludicrous." Next he turned to the ladies his eyes resting on Phyrra not in accusation but in counsel. "He is your son,you can love and cherish him as you see fit and I'll not raise a hand to stop you but I'll give you some advice. He is not you norΒ his father. You see potential in him but you force it. Throwing the traditions of your forbears at him. He can barely walk let alone run or hold a sword. He is as every son is,Β he loves you Pyrrha Β and wants nothing more than your praise and to make you proud. But if you keep throwing him off the deep end when he can barely walk. He puts up with all that you do because he fears your reprimands. And the fact that you ladies of Team Rwby are all complicit in this, it is too tough love. And it should cease. If you believe in destiny Pyrrha praise him for what he does well and show him what he can do. Raise him up, don't force him down."
And he would have word for Jaune Jr as well. "You think being a huntsman or a huntress is all in the arms and muscles, a lot of it is mental. There is a fine line between bravery and stupidity and the smartest know where it is. That is how you stay alive." He looks at Jaune Jr. "You have to motivate yourself to study and train and to fight. The will to live is there in you. Escaping your paternal grandfathers house took willpower. The kind of willpower you have is what is sought by space marines. And anything can be overcome if you will yourself to do it. You can overcome your weakness. Rogal Dorn a great warrior once said. Conquer the battlefield that lies inside you...conquer the battlefield of your weakness and train, that exercise equipment you keep getting is for overcoming your problems. You can be a huntsman, conquer your instincts."

(i like it a lot. thing is, the scene where Pyrrha's father chews Pyrrha and co. out is after JJ joins the New Path, 7 years after the kidnapping. JJ's kidnapping and subsequent escape from Acier Arc was what motivated Pyrrha to start moving JJ around, in an effort to keep him out of the Arc Family's hands.)

Emilion would feel compelled to don his terminator/tactical dreadnought armor and go after Jaune Jr. A bid to put a end to his reign of terror and stop this. Madness. He has a desire that things be dealt with. He would be like obi-wan, training Jaune Jr only to see him become evil. He would not blame Pyrrha he would blame himself, time spent with him would not fix things. He needed a whole family. And in that this space marine failed. He would rally his battle brothers and take the fight to the New Path.

It's not JJ's reign of terror...more like good ideals got corrupted by those who crave their own power. he's by no means a major figure, he's only a Lieutenant.
For one, JJ Does believe in the MISSION of The New Path: the Huntsmen have been around for over a century, and yet Remnant is no better off than it was at the end of the Great War: indeed, in some places things are WORSE. He feels it's time for a change, and there's no place in that change for a few self-righteous "gifted" people who are little better than elitist, "survival of the fittest" bullies.
He is a scientist at heart, and was experimenting with magnetism and polarity at a university in Atlas (he was admitted two years early because of excellent grades and recommendations from his teachers)Β when a gentleman by the name of Eisen Heydrich comes to speak to him, intrigued by his work.
while Heydrich introduces him to the intrigues of politics, their conversations boil down to this:
"son, give me the ultimate developments of your experiments, and i'll give you a body you can be proud of."
In exchange for handing over his research to the front group for the New Path, JJ receives gene therapy to give him a body that, while not by any means "built" at least doesn't leave him exhausted just by climbing up a few stairs.
JJ's shielded from the scope of the whole "people disappearing" thing due to his status: all he was exposed to where the Anti-Faunus hatemongers and anti-government terrorists who he helped take down.
and where were the Huntsmen then? where where the Huntsmen when the New path freed the Faunus slaves of the Atlesian elite? where were the huntsmen when the new Path revealed that, under the nose of Weiss, one of their own,Β Schnee Dust was still using Faunus slaves in little better than concentration camp conditions?
(Weiss didn't know about this: her foremen, all her father's minions, lied to her, but that's not the issue right now)
JJ is proud of and loves his mother because he knows she's trying to change things, but he believes one cannot make real change by trying to regain a "glorious past."

The mention of Heydrich makes me picture how Pyrrha and Jaune's first face-to-face encounter with him plays out.
It takes place at a charity drive/cocktail party/technology expo set by the New Path as part of its PR campaign and to demonstrate the organization's technological prowess; due to the number of influential figures present, it's only natural that renown huntresses such team RWBY and JNPR choose to attend, though Pyrrha and Jaune do so mainly to see if they can meet JJ after seeing him leading the Pathfinder march on TV.
Although Nora ends up getting distracted by the hors d'oeuvres (cocktail wieners, caviar on crackers, bruschetta, etc.) and Ren is forced to stay behind to keep her in check, Pyrrha, Jaune, and team RWBY end up running into Heydrich on the second floor balcony overlooking the dance floor. To their amusement, the New Path leader acts cordially and politely bids them welcome despite his outspoken views against the Huntsmen. Even when some of his entourage announce their misgivings about having the Schnee heiress and a White Fang leader around, he calmly states, "We have nothing to hide, so we have nothing to fear."
As a conversation strikes between them, the discussion eventually turns away from pleasantries and veers towards the topic of the New Path's activities and beliefs. Surprisingly, Jaune of all people offers a strong defense of the Huntsmen's way of running society and offers counterpoints that even manage to catch Heydrich off guard, prompting Pyrrha to feel a sense of pride towards her husband. (As oblivious as Jaune with regards to love interests, he has shown some of the insights that a leader should have at certain points.) However, Heydrich is no stranger to tough conversations, and manages to go toe-to-toe with his own arguments and evidence against the six people's own. Finally, he points out how the New Path have made things better for everyone including the neglected instead of a select few by using JJ as a example.
Just as Pyrrha is about to offer a retort, something over the balcony catches Heydrich's eyes that prompt him to say, "Speak of the devil." There on the dance floor stands JJ surrounded by a cadre of admirers. True to the television broadcast, JJ has indeed transformed into a rather healthy and fit man. (Yang disbelievingly asks aloud if this was the same frail JJ they knew, and Ruby stutteringly asks what kind of cookies Heydrich has been feeding him, making Heydrich raise an eyebrow. I kind of picture Ruby as still somewhat innocent even as an adult.) One of the female guests, a nervous faunus woman no less, finally steps forward asks JJ if he may dance with her and although he's initially hesitant, he eventually relents out of courtesy. As the pair goes into a slow, easy waltz, Pyrrha notices that while JJ still has that air of polite shyness he possessed as a kid, it's been somewhat tempered by the confidence he's gained likely due to his new body and strength; she can't help but smile motherly at the gentleness he's exhibiting with his female dance partner.
As if sensing several eyes watching him, JJ turns his head towards the balcony and his eyes fall on Heydrich as if awaiting a sign of approval. Heydrich nods, causing JJ to beam slightly. (Here, Jaune feels a somewhat pang of sorrow and jealously over JJ has replaced him with Heydrich as his father figure. Given how JJ blew up in his face when he discovered the story behind Jaune's forged transcripts, this is to be expected.) However, JJ's beam vanishes when he notices his parents and team RWBY, and he grimaces slightly; he stops dancing temporarily to speak into what appears to be a wristwatch. Suddenly, Heydrich's own wristwatch crackles to life with JJ's voice asking, "Sir, are those my parents?"
"You are correct," Heydrich replies. "They're looking forward to seeing you. Would you like to meet them?"
A pregnant pause and a heavy sigh can be heard. What follows next breaks Pyrrha's heart.
JJ replies in annoyance mixed with a bit of venom, "Can I not?"
Before Yang or anyone else can yell into the wristwatch, Heydrich answers, "I won't force you to if you don't want to."
"That's the most anyone's done for me."
As if seeing Jaune, Pyrrha, and team RWBY's presence as something to be avoided, JJ turns to his dance partner and apologizes that he has to leave. JJ's feet seemingly glide across the floor as he quickly makes his way out of the hall's many exits. He doesn't look up again at the balcony the whole way.
Heydrich turns to Pyrrha and Jaune in particular; though Heydrich's face remains stoic and indifferent, his eyes seem to convey a sense of smug victory; their son respect him more than his own parents. "Enjoy the food," he says before walking away. Ruby, Blake, and Weiss have to hold Yang back from throwing her champagne at Heydrich's back. On the other hand, Jaune and Pyrrha quickly make their way down to see if they can make their way to JJ. However, too late: he's already gone.
Comedy moment: Randomly during the discussion between Heydrich and the huntsman and huntresses, one of the party overseers interrupts and whispers to Heydrich that a certain orange haired huntress has inexplicably managed to finish off the hors d'oeuvres.
"So get some more from the kitchen," the leader whispers.
"Sir, when I said there is no more, I meant there is no more."
Heydrich's cordial behavior briefly evaporates as he mutters something under his breath about greedy huntsmen stealing from everyone and how he can't wait until they're out of a job. He quickly recovers and tells the overseer, "There is a renown pastry shop and high-quality sushi restaurant a block away that both do catering. Do the math."
The overseer does, and quickly leaves.
At the mention of sushi, Blake appears to make a motion to move away, but Weiss quickly snags her arm and mouths no in disapproval. Blake's ears droop slightly.

(I like it, save for one thing: Heydrich isn't the LEADER of the New Path: that title goes to Party leader Sterling Butler, an Ex-Huntsman student who, having fought in the "Grimm Incursion" and seen the excesses of the Huntsmen first hand, turned away from them to lead a "new Path" for society. Heydrich himself, an Atlesian politician and ex-army intelligence agent, is indifferent to the Huntsmen: he simply sees them as archaic and grabbing for what's left of their power rather than the "Morally corrupt" bullies Butler sees them as.
That Said, Butler is actually an admirer of Pyrrha: he found her own statements about changing the role of the Huntsmen to be inspiring. needless to say, Pyrrha is less than enthused to learn this.)

Hmmm. Emilion would be able to sense lying, Grey Knights move in high society unto itself. Inquisitors may command armies and fleets and burn worlds on rumor. Billions live or die by the command of these lords and ladies though only senior ones may carry such titles. Space marines are nearly above the purview of the inquisition with chapter home worlds exempt from paying tithes to Terra. The grey Knights are answerable to the Inquisitions ordo malleaus, the order of the hammer which hunts awful monsters with utmost secrecy and extreme prejudice. A grey knight is a formidable ally and a commanding grand master like Trioch is a real ace up your sleeve. Able to move in the Imperium's highest circles.
----
Trioch would laugh at what Jaune Jr believes. "By that logic there is no place for your friends, Sucre, Posidon and Zanna and Bianacd for your own sister Lia and your own parents your aunts Ruby, Blake, Wiess Yang maybe even you. Cardin Winchester and his ilk I can understand, disgusting pigs who deserve discomendation. But Wiess is good, I kicked in doors for a week for her and she was distraught."

There is a place for them: just not as Hunters. Like Pyrrha, they are caught in a self-created destiny loop: she believes Destiny is something you work towards, but clearly at the same time can't escape. (see what actually happened in the series: she could have easily fled with Jaune, but chose to stay and fight a futile battle that in the end accomplished nothing she could have been aware of "she was so concerned at whether or not she could, that she never stopped to think if she should."
she had to achieve her destiny. and in trying to achieve this, she paid the forfeit of her life, dying futilely and accomplishing nothing.)
Like all Hunters, they are led to believe they are mankind's only line of defense against the Grimm. but, as Atlas proved, a well-organized military equipped with modern weapons can be just as effective (see the train-created incursion into Vale in season 2: the Atlesian military had to step in when it was clear the Hunters were in over their heads (and indeed were partially responsible for the incursion in the first place... which is what you can expect when Ozpin stops Ironwood from using his military resources when they WOULD have likely been able to stop the attack before it began) and their armed forces were decisive in stopping the attack.Β
of course, the question of JJ boils down to "did any of you ever actually ASK HIM if he wanted to be a Huntsman? did it never occur to you that maybe, just maybe he DIDN'T want to be an expendable pawn in Ozpin's grandiose schemes?"
the same question goes for Sucre: it's clear early on that she doesn't want to be a Huntress, but under pressure from her mother and famous "aunts and uncles" she submits to their will, however reluctantly.
In short, it's not JJ's Destiny to be a Huntsman. it just takes Pyrrha and co. far, far too long to realize that.
to go back to Ruby in episode 1, she became a Huntress because she wants to help people.
I wonder if it ever occurred to any of our heroes that there are ways to help people besides effectively throwing yourself into the proverbial lion's den....or mouth.
and considering how they treat him growing up, JJ would hardly call Poseidon, Zanna and the others "friends." they're Lia's friends: he's just the tagalong little brother she has to look after. I mean, they were never outright malicious or anything, but they certainly didn't see him as "one of us."
Sucre is his only real friend, and the Huntsmen took her away. his mother was a kind, loving woman...until she had to be a Huntress. then she became a rampaging animal. the same went for his "aunts and uncles:" kind enough, SANE enough people when they weren't "on the job."
not to mention far, FAR too obsessed with close-combat. to quote the Engineer:
"how do I stop some big mean mother-hubbard from tearing me a structurally superfluous new behind? The answer? Use a gun. And if that don't work? Use MORE gun."
(note that the heaviest weapon we've seen used on a Grimm was a gunship's machine gun in season 2, and that killed it almost instantly: the same goes for Coco's minigun:almost instant-kill. The Huntsmen drastically neglect heavy firepower as an asset. i honestly wonder what those cannons on the Atlas battleships could do to a Grimm if a few shots from the one Torchwick seized could take down its sisters)
As for Weiss, she's far from a saint: racist, stuck-up, elitist and arrogant. Sure, she's gotten over her issues with Blake, but that doesn't make her instantly a "good person." ESPECIALLY considering that she never redacted her stance on faunus in GENERAL, just on Blake. she's still an arrogant snob, thinks Atlas is the Bees-knees, throws her money around when it suits her "do you know who i AM?!" and has no problems putting people down. sure, she's TRYING to change, but she's got a LONG way to go before i feel she's a "good person."

Jaune would counter with his vast intellect and his knowledge of Remnant's history: for as long as Mankind can remember, the Grimm have been a threat. and yet, no one seems to be taking a direct interest in truly DEALING with them: they huddle behind walls and cower in fear, when Science has given them the tools to actually DO something about the Grimm.
but do we use these gifts of science and engineering to build the means to wipe out this threat once and for all?
no. we hand it out to a few teenagers who have apparently suicidal tendencies and ask them to go and kill them for us. If the past few years have proven anything, is that the HUNTSMEN are just as reprehensible for the state of affairs as the Atlas military. Look at the example of Vale: in the weeks leading up to Cinder's attack, there was an obvious surging of Grimm activity outside Vale's walls. this was on the evening News, it wasn't like it was secret.
and yet, on the night of Cinder's attack, the Atlesian fleet was not at battle stations, the troops were watching the games, not the walls, and apparently no one had investigated just WHAT Cinder did when she snuck into Beacon Tower. Gross Incompetence.
or let us look at the earlier incursion, the one set off by Torchwick: General Ironwood had, quite correctly, been ready to send his troops into the area of Mountain Glenn to conduct an in-depth search after Ruby reported what she'd learned about the White Fang's location.
and what does Ozpin do? cuts the TRAINED ARMY off at the knees, and sends a small group of FIRST YEAR STUDENTS into the area instead. that Glynda reacted to Ironwood's suggestion with disgust and dismissed it outright shows how naive the Huntsmen are about these affairs.
and then there's how the Huntsmen seem to get a "get out of jail free card" because of what they do: it took Yang Xiao Long attacking a helpless Mercury on International television for recriminations to come down, and the worst she got for actual "punishment" was disqualification from the Vytal festival: basically a slap on the wrist. she wasn't expelled from beacon, wasn't held back a year, nothing that truly AFFECTS her long term.
and what about Cardin Winchester's treatment of Velvet Scarlatina, and by extension other Faunus? what about Weiss's stance on them? what about Sun Wukong's criminal behaviors?
just because these people are our self-appointed "protectors" does that mean they should not be held accountable for their actions? note that Cardin is never disciplined, nor is Sun, and even Weiss' team doesn't scorn her for her stance on Faunus, only for her lack of concern for Blake.
There are clearly Faunus Huntsmen and Huntresses: how are they supposed to feel when they see people they're supposed to protect harassing and abusing Faunus? how is Velvet or Blake supposed to feel if they're asked to, say, protect a Schnee Dust mine, and are forced to watch Faunus toiling away in slave labor?
the double-standards are truly horrifying when one looks at them closely.
(JJ was shown all these things by Heydrich after he joined the NP, so he knows all the crap that was done. they never talked about it at home. Seeing Yang attack Mercury, seeing his Mother KILL Penny, finding out Blake was a White Fang agent, seeing what they did subsequently during the "time of troubles," all frankly horrifies him even more.) Emilions Response:
1.You make a sound point about the Faunis hunters and huntresses who would have to make a choice and about Cardin Winchester.
2.Yangs attack on Mercury was self defense and he would produce arcane telemetry indicating another semblance was in use. A third party who was trying to influence the outcome of the match.
3.Sun Wukong's thievery is that which comes from a life of struggling to survive and that comes from the poverty which comes from anti-Faunis discrimination. But he still should be disciplined.
4.the fact that raw recruits are sent out and that ironwood had no trained recon troopers shows that there is ineptitude not just in the huntsmen academies but also the Atlas military.
5.The fact ironwood allowed himself to be cut off at the knees was fundamentally wrong. Huntsmen don't seem to have the authority and Β would need the experience of command. If they wanted to.
6.Did Ozpim and Glynda give any reason for their actions? And what exactly did they say?
7.Ozpim had good instincts in not wanting to alert the white fang with a massive military raid. They hear a swarm of aircraft they could be gone quite quickly.

Only YANG saw Mercury attacking her, and that was an illusion: to the rest of the world, she attacked a helpless kid who she'd already beaten. Considering JJ knows her as a wild card and more apt to punch than to think (a trait she passed on to Lia) such a behavior would not be out of his mindset of the "rampaging" huntresses.
Glynda dismisses Ironwood's plan as "military Bravado" showing she holds armed forces in contempt: Huntress Arrogance.
As for Ozpin, he interferes because he's afraid of two things:
One, Spreading panic (at which he fails, because Vale is subsequently attacked)
two, intervening before the full "master plan" is revealed, which is....frankly, idiotic. an obvious threat has been presented, and Ozpin himself acknowledges it.
Which first? Flag Bearer or the Scouts? Scouts, obviously. but "scouts" do not mean a group of inexperienced children led by a desk-bound academic. Ozpin made a foolish error in judgement there, and frankly the Vale Council was correct in removing him from Security chief of the Festival.
(replacing him with Ironwood...not so much.)
Whether or Not Ironwood had recon troopers was never brought up: Ozpin shot down ANY military intervention cold.
And a massive military Raid would likely have scattered the White Fang before they could begin the operation, preventing the attack from occurring in the first place. sure, Torchwick and Adam and co. get away, but Vale is spared damage and loss of life, and the fear the attack induced is never engendered, making Cinder's goals more difficult to carry out.

Humanizing?
Mercury isn't a "humanized" char so much as a realist: when he sees Cinder's cause starting to go south, he reverts to self-preservation.
He betrays Cinder when she starts to go full psychotic and starts coming up with unrealistic plans: this is combined with a physical breakdown due to her "theft" of the maidens powers, the powers themselves start to consume her.
(think the Emperor in Star Wars, she's going full old witch-Hag)
taking as much of her plan as he knows of, he escapes to Vale Command and reveals all: this will be the seed that will grow into the "distrust of the Huntsmen" issues later on.
Needless to say, Yang and Coco are LESS than pleased to find out what really happened at the Vytal Festival....
As For Emerald, she dies horribly when Cinder Betrays her to save herself, and she is torn apart by a swarm of Nevermores.

I am honestly in two mindsets about this. On one hand a realist
Mercury could be intriguing as he and Emerald gradually swtichΒ
views when things come full circle. While sadist Mercury wouldΒ
just give us the audience all the more reason to demonize him
and the other villains, making the heroes victories all the more
satisfactory.Β

oh, he's still a Sadist. he's just a REALIST Sadist...hardly one for inflicting pain when one is being torn apart by angry mobs or swarms of Grimm, after all.

Well that makes sense.Β
Although I still feel more sympathy with Emerald than I do for eitherΒ
Mercury or Neo.
