I think it is an anthropomorphic. I see tiger patterns applied to some sort of saurian in homo erectus style. The hat and his / her mimics are very dandy. The shirts texture in Download Format is quite accurate and enjoyable. But the arms of back and front view are somehow edgy, instead of smooth & anti-aliased.

The monologue in description only makes sense if you take metaphorically. If it is meant 1:1 it is absolutely distracting and off topic – where is the beloved one in this picture, then anyhow?

The background is a little distracting to me: Since it is all about the character to present, the transparent outline in background are transfiguring. I cannot figure out, what is to be seen here.

I would redo the outline in front and back view on the left half of the image. Background issue might be up to you 😉

The Character is really appealing, like someone off this Earth, off this planet. (S)he has different hairdos, (s)he wear different clothes and thereby it is a quite flexible char-sheet!  And I like the coat he/she has in the upper right-side profile, and the look of his facial expression looks cool, superior, but at least self-confident.

The bottom right expression has a sophisticated appeal. She/He looks quite planning out something, baiting a trap, trying to point out some precisely put wrathful remark.

I find this is  a quite splendid piece of furry/anthro art. Your Shaping of Arm Forms is super swell!! Also your characteristics in mimic expressions and head shapes in this specific sujet

Hello there and thank you for your very constructive comment! I've given you a llama for that but only now, I could reply to your comment.

I'm glad that you liked my artwork, especially that you took your time to see through the expressions and the clothes (so it's been proven that they actually worked for someone... god, I began to doubt that...)

But lastly I think you've mistaken the 'monologue' in the description. It is actually a quote ripped out of context to describe a bit of Suvillaine's past. And due to his/ her promiscuous lifestyle, it isn't needed to go in detail to that loved one.

Thanks for your feedback and I wish you a nice day!

Hello!

Reference sheets are a little more difficult to critique but I am going to give it a shot. So, first off, I like the design, there is a lot of interest to this character. I like the black markings, especially the ones going down the spine to give it a boney look. I also like the colors you chose and I like that it is primarily red with a splash of complimentary green, keeps it from being overwhelming and makes the design pleasing to the eye.  I like the little details you have added to the reference sheet as well; such as the antennae and mouth interior. I like the head shape and the feet as well. His crazy red hair and scrawny tail add a nice touch to the design.

One thing that stands out to me, however, is how cluttered you have made the background. It distracts the viewer from the details you want them to notice on the reference sheet for the character itself. I have always been attracted to the clean, separated, and easy to read reference sheets. I do like that you have included multiple images, though, to show off his clothing choices as well.

Another thing that I notice is the anatomy itself. Since it is an anthro character as well as a vulture, I do not know how much of it is intentionally stylized so disregard my comments here if it is on purpose. But, the arms and shoulders seem a little small, especially for the size of his head. I notice this specifically in the picture on the far left and the one in the bottom right. The arms also look very awkwardly bent in the lower right one like the shoulder connects someplace off in the empty space. The other thing I notice is the direction the knees are facing. It is difficult for me to imagine how he would walk comfortably with his legs so bow shaped. I do like the scrawny look for this vulture character though.

Overall, I like the character design, it is appealing and makes you look twice. Good job!

Souvillaine In reply to ArtofaWhiteDragon [2018-08-11 20:49:28 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much for your constructive critique, it is very helpful I can already tell!

It's always great to hear that some appreciate the actual intention of this: the design. I'm glad you assured me that my chosen colours and my work with the markings have attracted your appeal.

One thing I'm definitely glad you pointed out for me is the 'overwhelming' background that is distracting from the main reference. And I think it's true... I just had this small hill of design sketches of the head and wanted to somehow implement them into the picture. I guess for the next reference sheet, I will choose a more simplified construction of it all... after all this is only my second attempt at making those so I'm still experimenting.

The arms and shoulders as well as the bent legs are intentional. And for the head, I can assure you, I followed the ´7 1/2 Rule´which states that the proportion of the whole character is fitting if it's skull is fitting inside the figure about 7 and a half times, it does however look really big, since the beak I had to count in was quite large (trust me, it was even longer in my first two design sessions until I finally shortened it). I see though, that the one on the bottom right is somewhat out of proportion.

But before I let you go, I have to plead you to answer me one question:

If you had to work with that reference, would the given information suffice? Or what do you think, you or someone else might need to see added to this reference sheet?

ArtofaWhiteDragon In reply to Souvillaine [2018-08-12 03:39:25 +0000 UTC]

It probably is the nose that makes it look bigger. And the hair as well.

I don't see anything that isn't clear on the reference sheet, I could easily draw the character from the information you have on the sheet. Hmmm, although, you could add a note of what his body is covered in. I am assuming it is fur and not feather fluff and then scaly bird skin for his feet and forearms around the visible scales from looking at the sheet.

It is!

I carefully try to balance my artworks out for that sake. Colour is nothing we really know how it affects us by the first view, but you know that it works when it works... or not, and I try to prevent that.
