My younger brother, aside from being into Warhammer, is also an avid fan of the Metroid games and their leading lady Samus Aran. Ergo, he commissioned me to make a drawing of his favourite bounty hunter for Christmas last year.

When I made "Silent Hunter", I was going through a tough phase in my artistic career. I'd always known that my older drawings kinda/really REALLY sucked, but around about 2010 I realised that my current drawing style wasn't anything special either. This got me obsessed with compulsively collecting research material, minimising the amount of background and foreground detail in my images, and totally changing the way in which I used colour and lighting.

Hence "Silent Hunter", with its drawings of Samus and a Metroid that are, sadly, both direct tracings of images found online (however, the colours, tones, and Samu's energy blast were added by myself) and a background that is less of a background and more of a fleshy blur of red and blue.

So yeah, "Silent Hunter" isn't exactly what I'd call my Magnus Opum

Still, it was a valuable learning experience, and I badly needed those last year.
