I swear, I didn't intend for this one to get so detailed when I started it. But once I started inking, it just felt right to do some hatching to make the textures work, and then I had to keep doing that through the whole piece to make it consistent... and before I knew it I was putting more detail in than I've done for any piece in a long time.

This piece was done for the "Challenge" section of the "Call to Action" zine. I wanted to do something that would represent a challenge that wasn't strictly combat, so I took the opportunity to do a piece featuring a character I've wanted to paint for a long time - a fae lord called the Masked King , and my character Ode coming to negotiate-- always a tricky thing when dealing with the fae.
