What the?
How did I miss this? Didn't show up on my devwatch list for some reason and I only just noticed it on your page. Weird.
Really nice! love the holes in her back legs for some reason. I guess because it shows how wasted away she looks.

Could have it when "War" is expecting a hostile encounter, have some type of scale mail or full plate armor build to seeming blend into her body(leaving the question where the armor starts and stops hard to tell) and make any weapon might be carrying a hazard to an attacker getting too close.....

Thanks, but the designs are already set. You'll see them in due time.

Interesting interpretation. I hope that if you intend to continue the Four Horsemen, or Horsewomen as the case may be, that you stay the right course. I've frequently seen people making mistakes regarding the Horsemen. I firmly believe that they consist of War, Famine, Pestilence, and Death, in that order. I don't know where people are getting this 'Conquest' from. Hope the other Horsewomen turn out as good.

actually the classic four was War, Famine, Conquest and death. I don't know where it was changed but conquest stepped down in favor of pestilence. Atleast thats what I have read and heard from my mythology teachers.

Nicely done. I had imagined, while reading the story, that her face was totally covered in bandages, but that's probably cause I see Kidby's drawings of the Four Horsemen of Discworld.
But why does Death take orders from Below? Considering the interpretation of Azreal, the Angel of Death, and the fact that life, according to religious text, can only be given by God's consent would it not come from on high?

Well, let's not confuse the actual angel of death with the four horse(wo)men of the apocalypse....

Apon the will of the end times the seals of the four riders of twilight shall be set free on the world of mortals to bring their will on the world.
With the breaking of their seals by divine hands shall come forth the four Famine,Plague, War, and Death are their names......

If you like... a word of warning, though, mine isn't nearly as symbolic as yours might be, because I go for incorporating the effects into the depiction as well. To me, Famine has a lot in common with predatory animals in general, feral and eternally starved to boot.
If anything, my version of Famine is derived more from the legendary manticore (better known as the Bengal tiger, which _is_ a real-life man-eater) than anything Biblical, which (and I think you agree) is personal preference, so I'm really not gonna force it on you. In fact, now I'm almost afraid of what might happen if the two ever met...
...Hey! No fighting in my head!

Oh, I was wondering if you were going to draw her. Another excellent piece, SS.
I do have a question though. I'm afraid I must be obtuse, as the last sentence cofuses me. Which are the "former" and "latter" that you're refering to? Wine and oil and wheat and barley? She herself and the mortals? Sorry to ask a stupid question.

DrZock In reply to SpiralingStaircase [2009-05-01 02:26:08 +0000 UTC]
Ahh, all right. That makes a bit more sense now. That comes from the "official literature" about the four horsemen, right?

I'm pretty sure he means Famine keeps wheat and barley from growing while keeping oil and wine in supply. I think.
