Oh such a sweet face. Makes me want to hug the little darling. You are incredible! In light of the name....FE is out on dvd with new features...I love that movie...it's a name I wouldn't have thought of but it's such a wonderful choice. This is a touching tribute to your pet.

I've had a few critters die because of the bedding... apparently the cedar stuff is not so good for them, but mine never got skin irritations :/ Weird indeed. I'm partial to blaming it on the shop, especially if it was Petco... oi e__e;; I know how hard it is to lose those little guys ;; It's too bad I didn't know you had a hamster earlier.. I would've brought my little Russian down to wreak havoc XD I think my good friend still breeds these guys, I'll have to inquire, but you may want to avoid petshops and try asking around for a breeder in the area.

I'm having trouble finding a local breeder. But yeah, no more Petco...the hamster they gave me to replace the first -also- died, a few hours after I brought him home...and I KNOW I didn't do anything wrong...I've had rodents for years...and no cedar bedding. Both hamsters were definitely sick when I bought them...I wish I had known as much now as I did then, i would have been able to tell immediately. At least now i know what signs to look for before buying a new one.

aww leeloo is a great name, I loved 5th element! Sorry to hear about your small pet I use to have rats and they only lived for 2 years so sad when pets pass on. This is a gorgeous little picture I thought it was a cat at first though.

I know how you feel, when a pet or a person dies it's terrible...My cat (I had him for more than 5 years) died like one week ago.....I always miss him.
Cute pic! I like the clouds in the back and the 'ligth'? I hope you're feeling better.

Oh no... she died after only a week? I'm very sorry. You may want to, as you said in your LJ, have a word with the petshop. It sounds like the poor girl became sick at the shop and it wasn't any fault of yours.
It's tough to lose a pet, even a small one. Believe me, I've had enough gerbils to know how it hurts. Take your time getting a new pet-- do it whenever you feel ready.
You mentioned in your LJ that you want suggestions for disinfectants. I recommend looking into SimpleGreen, which is what the zoo that I worked at used to clean some of the animal stalls. It's supposed to be relatively safe. The product website is at [link] .

What type of bedding did you have her on? What type of bedding did the petstore have her on? The way you describe her skin irritation leads me to believe she was on either Pine bedding, or Cedar. Note me sometime, and we can discuss it.

I think it was aspen...because I remember reading somewhere that cedar can cause problems. I'm not sure what the petstore had her on though...but I'm pretty sure it was the same stuff I bought. I'll double check the bedding tomorrow...since it's late right now and I don't want to wake my roommate up.

If it was indeed aspen, then you're probably right at having guessed it was a skin disease/parasite. I remember back when I was a wee child and didn't know any better, I had my hamsters/gerbils on cedar/pine and they started loosing fur from it.

Actually, apparently aspen is okay...I knew cedar and pine weren't though. But aspen seems to be the number 1 reccommended bedding for dwarfs (aside from carefresh which is very expensive).
