It's been forever since I last drew these guys. The main characters in my old never-finished TLK fanfic from...oh...waaaay back in 8th grade I think.That's, from right to left, Kalto, Tay, and Syma.

For a period of my life I drew nearly nothing but lion king stuff. Mainly because that's what I got good at as a kid, so i wasn't very confident with other stuff. I have since broken free of this, as you'll notice in the more recent pages of my gallery.
Plus I like the lion king, it's what inspired me to really become a professional artist. Like some galleries are filled with pokemon, or zim, or whatever the new cartoon trend is these days, or Gorillaz. There's an obsession I have yet to understand.

though its a bit digitalized on my lcd screen that looks awesome! i especially think the concurrent color lines work well for the style. good work.

its all so good XD I luff their colouring and the way you have managed to co-ordinate it, the outlining is amazing, the shading on the floor is great. I like the shape of the limbs in prticular also the tongue of the lil one XP

Awww..I love the litle grey one! Your line work really is amazing. Have you tried a brush pen before for real media inking-it works better by making quick strokes. Still can't undo, but it might work out a little easier for ya.

I have actually...they're very nice, but I stil run into the "can't undo" problem, because I've not yet mastered getting a quick stroke perfect on the first try.

Wow, I must be stupid or something, but have their designs changed since you last did them? I definitely don't remember them having so many markings o_o
They look so smooth and pretty. I envy your inking skills. I still have no idea how you make your lines look so awesome.

Oh, and about the inking...I can't ink for anything with real pen...it's kinda funny. Everyone's always asking how I get my lines so smooth with a tablet as opposed toa real pen, but I'm always wondering how everyone else gets their lines so smooth with real ink. I think it's something to do with the fact that I do linework (sketching or inking) rather quickly. I make lines in quick strokes, which makes them smoother, and while it's nearly impossible to do that with a pen, with a tablet you can just undo if it doesn't come out quite right. So instead of slowly drawing the line, which makes it wobbly, I just make one quick stroke, undo, and do it again, until I get it just the way I want it.

Yeah, I did change them a while ago. Syma always had the back-strype, and Kalto just has spots cause he's a little teeny cub, but sometime about a year ago, maybe more, I gave them some more markings. I think it was because I was looking at some lion photographs and noticed a lot of reddish patches in their fur, on their faces and stuff, especially the little cheek-splotches. So I decided it would be nice way to make my characters more original yet more realistic. It's actually probably been more than a year, because I remember drawing Tay with cheek-splotches quite some time ago...*checks TLK gallery* Then again, maybe it's been more than a year or two. My earliest online Tay picture is from 2000: [link] and he's still got those markings, I think the same goes for Syma. But they were created in 1998, so it's entirely possible you saw pics from before 2000 somewhere...I did have some art up on Kubo's Spot waay back when.
Or it coul just be because of the flat coloring minus shading. Shaded pictures tend to make the markings stand out less, like this one: [link] and [link]
At the very least,I know Syma's black tuft of chest fur is relatively new. I keep going back and forth on that one, she didn't have it in the last pic, but she did in the one before that.

What happenend to Tay's hair? Maybe I'm imagining things but wasn't it black? Or maybe it changes color as it grew. Dunno.

Yup, it's usually black. He's got a black mane, but that of course doesn't start to grow in till he's older, he's just a little cub in this picture. I usually draw him older than this.
