Description
Images of a small pin that show a very early version of the Darkwing-concept circulate on the Internet. At that time the show was still to be called Double-0-Duck and Drake was supposed to look like a disneyfied version of the Scarlet Pumpernickel with a bit of a James Bond-attitude and Donald's face, I reckon.
Luckily - due to copyright reasons in fact - the show was renamed as Darkwing Duck and Drake thankfully got a proper outfit. I already feel bad for drawing him in this silly costume. xDGraphite pencil and Photoshop / 2009

*cough* might I add that, about four years ago, the European branch of Disney turned Donald into a Johnny English-parody code-named precisely that? Given, it's only in the TPBs, Uncle Scrooge is the funder andΒ owner of said secret agent group(designed to protect his fortune, of course)and Donald's usually dressed entirely Bond/MIB style, but still...

I actually love the Donald Double-O-Duck stories they published in the "Lustiges Taschenbuch" - their style was nifty and the storytelling quite well-wrought.

Meh, they were written well enough it's just..how many times have we seen this stuff? In how many variations? Don't get me wrong, I basically like everything that makes 'The Original Duck' look good, but there is so much as too much of a good thing.

It's just -wrong. Whoever came up with this should have themselves checked for a serious case of complete achromatopsy. Don't get me wrong, you perfectly captured the expression and pose, but..it's still an eyesore. And the bow tie, please, somebody just -augh! Thank heavens they renamed im properly and gave him that dashing, shmexy purple outfit of his, or else the series would have died on the storyboard.

I read about this in the first new comic, it explained the whole thing. The guy wasn't serious about this anyway, he was just testing the water to see what his boss really wanted, and then shot him out with Darkwing Duck when he didn't like Double 0 duck

It's very Mickey Mouse, isn't it? Old school Disney... they nineties asked for something more... purple. About the bow tie - I know the Doctor made bow ties cool... but it just looks ridiculous on Drake.

Purple is far snazzier; it doesn't show the dirt the same for one thing. he still looks cool here though but then, I'm biased when it comes to Darkwing.

I don't know, I think the white jacket is rather dashing. And the cape has sort of a *snort* super man theme going on. And that hat....

I think the colours are awful, too... they simply clash and have nothing of the stylish smooth purple tones the final outfit has. I guess Disney was still going for a "close-to-Donald-look" here.
