Description if you've seen my work on my Web site and elsewhere, you probably know I've done a ton of these character portraits--most of them for a Planescape project. Well, this is the one that got me started. It was originally a portrait for my daughter's favorite Baldur's Gate character. She hated it. I eventually replaced all the BG female portraits--partly to aggravate my daughter, partly to give Photoshop a try as an illustration tool.

Like the rest, this one was drawn in pencil and painted using Photoshop.

So, it's your daughter character, i presume? Elf or half-elf? What class? And is it a copy of your daughter's appearance?

It's great, fit's BGII portraits style.

OMG, the hair!! And background, are so cool!!! For instance it looked very androgenous (sp?) for me. Ahhh!!! Sorry -_____- I'm such a loser.
I love how you combine traditional and digital media ^^

I have to say, you really do know how to do eyes, that's for sure. They look fabulous in all your drawings. I also like how the light catches her hair from the back like that. It's a neat effect.

Hmm, if I recall correctly, this was meant to replace the portrait of Jaheira, right? The so-called "monkey with corn-rows?"

I think it was "donkey-woman"...

Thanks for the kind comment--the eyes are very important to me. If I do them right, you get a sense of 'someone' and not just 'something.'

We lovers of RPG's can be very picky about how our characters are supposed to look, so I empathise with your daughter ^.~ However, this is still a lovely portrait. You have a real knack for capturing expression in the eyes--making them very luminous. The birdlike bonestructure in her face is really nice, too... I could totally see her being a half-elf.

You have such beautiful frames ... and always very well suitted. Like the columns for your goddess and naturey-goodness for an elf. Looks great How do you get the brush strokes into the paintwork? Is it a special PS brush you use, or a filter, or do you add the strokes manually, or something else entirely?

Thanks! The border elements in this one were made using the maple-leaf brush in Photoshop. It makes a nice 'weathered metal' texture. I have a Wacom tablet, so i build the color/texture by layering transparent stokes. It's embarassingly easy.

I like the colors you used, earth tones look really good on this. Also the flower symbol on the background really adds something to this picture, it makes this picture seem whole someway.

I can't believe your daughter didn't like this. It's gorgeous, especially the eyes, which are so striking. I can't quite place it, but something about this piece is so arresting. I can't take my eyes off it.
