About 18 months ago, I started on a series of in-game portratits for an RPG using the Planescape setting. I think I made about 30 all told--this one is among my favorites. She's meant to be a Tiefling. Mommy was a mortal and daddy was something really, really bad...All portraits in this series were original pencil drawing painted using Photoshop.

hello i am brent bates of bates comics, i have been talking witha few colorists,and i saw this picture and woundered if you would be intrested in donig some comic coloring for us,we are veary new in the comic world,and i mean this is veary veary cool,I would as would the rest of the team want you on bord of bates comics.

Breathtakeing peice of art. it looks professional. the look on her face is awsome. it looks like her eyes are burning right through you. her horn are a nice touch too. The background really adds to the picture. great choice in colours and amazing shadeing.

I was wondering something James.
Something that is really unique to your paintings is that you see the brush strokes. Are those from the pencil sketch or from coloring in Photoshop?

To answer your question: Both. I have a kind of scribbly style with a pencil--particularly if I'm going quick. I often 'scribble' over the top of the pencil when I'm in Photoshop. Layered scribbles--I guess thats me...

Planescape... my favorite RPG-setting ever. Also the source of one the best best games ever: Planescape: Torment.
Tieflings are awsome, they always remind me of DiTerlizzi's awsome work. Yours is great too. The hair may be somewhat flat, but her expression is masterful

This one has always been one of your favorites, back when I was a member of GFXArtist. The skin on this one is very fabulously shaded, and the facial features are perfect. Interesting use of pink for the skin color, too. Excellent work!

when i first saw the thumbnail, my first thought was "look, a tiefling", then i read your description and said "wow". grats, this is really great - you could just as well be an official dnd illustrator (well, maybe you are that). keep it up!
