I'm still alive.

...I've thought about what I could say at this moment for months now, but never had the courage to ever actually do anything.
that is until the Kubo and the Two Strings contest caught my eye and kicked my rear into gear.

seriously, this may be one of my all-time favorite movies. the visuals, the characters, THE FEELS.
EVERYTHING.

SPOILER WARNING, PEOPLE

Some people could argue that this doesn't actually depict Kubo overcoming anything, BUT I DISAGREE. Of all the tragic events of the movie, the simple, realistic agony of seeing his mother mentally slip away hit me the absolute hardest. And he dealt with this hardship stoically, waking up every day to make sure his mother was fed, and making sure he was (almost) always back in time to truly be with her for a few brief moments. I've had to see relatives completely fade away within just the last year or two, and have noticed my own mother has become increasingly forgetful of late, so watching Kubo deal with this absolutely broke my heart. If his determination to make sure he makes the most of what little time he has with his mother ISN'T overcoming one of life's many challenges, then I don't know what is.

I gotta say, I had a blast with this one. I only managed to find out about the contest by sheer dumb luck about two weeks ago, and have been working like mad trying to get this AND all my schoolwork done. This is the first time I've been able to break out my fancy new Prismacolor pencils for a serious project, and they are absolutely amazing (even if they can't hold a point for more than 2 strokes). This ALSO was the first time I've used brown paper for a picture, and I think it turned out pretty good.

that SAID i'm sadly really out of practice, what with college and everything. Nevertheless, for once I'm reasonably okay with something I made! Which is frankly unheard of.

Wish me luck, I reeeaally want a free bluray at least. I need those special features and behind-the-scenes in my life.

...guess I should probably wrap this up, I gotta get up for work tomorrow.
