I super duper love the little miniature stars in the eyes, intentional or not. I love the blue gradient you've used on the leaves. I very much enjoy looking at this piece. HOWEVER, I feel like the background could use some work. Try adding in a blurred yellow/blue forest background. I feel like it would make it give more focus on the Rowlet if it is a dull yellow or blue. Also try adding in some yellow or orange lighting on the face.

When pokemon are drawn in a realistic way, I find it can be...unsettling. The additional, unnecessary detail in our fictional cartoon characters, especially those from childhood can be fuel for nightmares. But I don't find that to be the case here. Perhaps it is the fact that the pokemon is based on an owl, an adorable creature on it's own, but you've really managed to capture an elegance with your picture and in your style. It's got a perfect balance of cute and beauty.
On the picture itself, there are some minor things to critic on: Making the leaf tail look more leaf like with more confident lines, more texturing of the feathers near the front, maybe define where it's wings are a tad better using some more shading, that sort of thing. But the main thing I would like to see is your Realistic Rowlet look more like a Rowlet. I know that sounds kinda rude and normally I think the artist should create what they want. And as far as this picture goes on it's own, I think it looks fantastic! But when I first looked at it, I thought it was an owl; and I'm a pokemon fan. It wasn't until I saw the title when I knew what it was. And I'm not so much talking about the colour scheme as you mentioned it's supposed to be a shiny (btw, think more glittery stars would of help communicate that) I more mean shorter legs, larger beek, bring the white up to the leaves that sort of thing.
Again, I think it's a very well made piece of artwork, and I honestly envy you in your talents.

Hiya there! I stumbled upon this on ProjectComment .
To put it bluntly, I'm generally not a fan of realistically drawn Pokémon. This one however, really caught my eye. You've done great work giving it a realistic touch, and yet it still sort of retains that cute cartoony look that makes Pokémon.. well.. Pokémon. Going for the shiny colors instead of the regular ones was a great choice, it certainly helps the picture stand out from the huge flock of other Rowlet fanart on DeviantArt.
Overall, you've done great work on the details. Rowlet looks just as fluffy as I've imagined it would be. The feet and the beak are also really well done. For a moment, I almost forgot that I'm looking at a Pokémon and not a real bird. There is one thing that sort of bugs me, the leaf, the one that functions as the tail. It just doesn't seem quite as natural as the rest of the Pokémon. The leaf bowtie looks really good though. My favorite detail I'd say, are the eyes. I love how there's a reflection of a starry sky in there. It's quite a neat reference to how the 7th Generation games are named after celestial bodies.
All in all, you've done absolutely fantastic work on this cute little Rowlet. I will most definitely give it a home in my Favorites gallery. ^^

Hello! I'm from
First off, ADORABLE
Second, I really like the way you applied a Pokemon design to a real-world animal. I can imagine this little guy hopping around both in and out of Pokemon games. At the same time, I was able to immediately recognize it as a Pokemon. I like how you used the lesser-known Shiny coloration. Definitely stands out from the crowd of new fanart with your design and technique.
I can't criticize much, but I would love to see a more detailed background considering how well detailed Rowlet is. The placement of the tail seemed a bit odd considering the angle, since it almost looks like the tail from a straight-on shot, but the fact that you even did an angle other than straight-on is impressive. At least to me. I struggle with angled shots. The shading is very good, but I feel like the very careful shading on the divide bewteen the green and white feathers on/around the face didn't carry over to other parts of its body, particularly the legs and the feathers around his wing area.
Overall, very good! I'd just suggest bringing some of your more careful details into other aspects of your art. Great job!

Oh God it's so cute!
Hiyas! I found your art through ProjectComment ~
I don't even care whether it's a Pokemon or not; it's the cutest thing ever! Without looking up a picture to see how accurate it is, I can already say the colours are so nice together, and the bright red feet with the teal-green body contrasts just right. And that face! It's so adorable! The little blush, and the bit of red peaking from the bottom of the beak... AH! I want to cuddle it! The leaves are adorable too; the ones on the front look like a bowtie, and I almost want to put a little hat on it to match! The one for the tail I almost didn't notice; I thought it was just tail-feathers until I actually looked...
Okay, now I'll bring up a picture for reference.
Wow. Those pictures are nothing compared to this. It's definitely a realistic take on the original Pokemon, and I have to say, I was a little disappointed by the original. I honestly have no criticism for this; I feel like I'm lacking! >n<'

Wow, this piece is gorgeous! You captured the shiny form fairly well, although I think you could have made the leaf bow tie pop a little more by making it a lighter shade of green, to better reflect rowlet's unique little touch. I also feel like your tail is drawn in a strange position, and that it should be centered more behind the Rowlet as opposed to the side. Rowlet's right eye also seems a bit bigger than the left, which makes the face seem rather unbalanced, at least to me. Your feathers, however, are very detailed, and I like how you tried to shade each feather individually, or at least that it appears that way. Your shading on the feathers is very nice, and gives Rowlet a mottled look to it, like it's still a chick. However, I feel like your lighting touches could've been blended better than they were, although I don't feel like it affects the overall picture that much. I think it's neat Howe you drew Rowlet as a more realistic version a shiny opposed to the generally cartoonish style of Pokémon, and it worked really well. I hope that you can continue to improve, and wish you luck on your shiny (I did the masuda method and got one within two days and about four hundred eggs)!

Thanks a lot for your answer :3 (mine is very late x) )
I'll work more on the shading next time, and I had to move his tail so much, I was never able to place it correctly UwU
Thanks :3 (I'm currently at 2450 soft resets... I think I'll start playing in 6 months :')) )
